So I just bought this 1992 eagle talon tsi. Im a complete noob to dsm, but im mechanically inclined. The car was mid build and needs a few things. My current main problem is that the stock exhaust doesn't line up with the compressor housing. The turbo is supposedly a big 16g, but again im new to dsm and all the turbo compressor housings. Its at a different angle and a few centimeters off. Im just wondering if im being dumb or I need a different j pipe or different exhaust completely. First pic is top down btw

Just an FYI, the compressor housing is the left side of the turbo that the intake pipe connects to. The turbine housing is the right/exhaust side that has the o2 housing connected to it. Therefore, the pipe in your picture is the o2 housing (because the o2 sensor is usually there) off of the turbine housing.

Are you saying you can't get the o2 housing and dp to lineup and therefore can't bolt them together? It's looks pretty darn close to me and doesn't need to be perfect.

You're mixing some terms. Jpipe is an intake item. The flange you see up top is for an external waste gate. What isn't lining up? The downpipe below?

If OP is referring to the o2 housing, it may be an o2 housing designed after the EvoIII o2 housing which downpipe flange is angled differently than the 1g/2g o2 housing. The downpipe (if not built for an evoIII housing) would need the flange cut off and rewelded to match the o2 housing.

Yea i remember reading about that somewhere. Thanks for the answers everyone, and sorry for not exactly knowing my terms 100%

If you don't mind, what was the solution to your issue? It was marked resolved, but going forward, this may help someone else.

It was that im a dingus and didn't realize it was an evo 3 02 housing. Currently in search of a turboback that will fit, but not having great luck. (Will update if I find a turboback that fits)

RRE was the only company I am aware of that made a bolt-on downpipe to fit the EvoIII o2 housing. That was also many moons ago. Any aftermarket downpipe just needs the flange cut off and rewelded to match the EvoIII o2 housing.

Some sort of fabricated o2 housing...probably wasn't built correctly. You don't need an external gate to control boost on a j-pipe turbo, from the look of it your turbo is just a Chinese 16G anyway so any boost control issue would be a result of an unported wastegate hole.

So basically ditch all the aftermarket crap you don't need and go back to a stock-fitment o2 housing and everything should line up just fine. If the turbo's already been modified for external-gate use, just get another turbo...they're $140 new.

Yea i may end up going that route. The turbo has been modified to externally gated.. I do actually have a 38mm wastegate I'm going to atleast try because I already modified the stock downpipe to fit. If not then yea im going the new 02 housing and downpipe route
