Has paint code R65 (Almaden Red Pearl), which is a maroon ish red. Not sure if the paint is original or not to be honest though.

Car will need a few changes and a second set of wheels and tires before it gets autocrossed. Probably sometime next year at the earliest.

I'll try to get a full mod list up later this week.

Updated mod lists and a few other things. Hoping ill have it back on the road this weekend, need to replace some crush washers on the turbo oil feed, boost leak test it, and put some work into the tune.

Am I correct that this is an Ebay knock off 16g? Guess I should have looked before I bought.

General consensus is that these don't last very long?

Definitely none of the OEM turbos had DSM or EVOIII written on them so I'd guess yes. As for how long it lasts turbochargers are highly sensitive to tolerances on things like the bearings. Those Ebay knock off turbos are probably reverse engineered from a factory turbo so it's a question of how many shortcuts did they take, how good was their reverse engineering, what kind of tolerances do they hold, and where does your specific part land on that tolerance window compared to the OEM tolerance window. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them (individual units) actually last pretty long, but as a total population they probably get trounced by the OEM stuff. If it was me I would probably not worry about it and pick up an OEM as a spare. Maybe put a wire mesh on the LICP to catch any compressor wheel pieces before they get in your intercooler if you're really worried.

100% pure $140 Chinesium. Mainly depends how it's being used but the thrust plate will typically fail in 5k or so with any amount of boost. On wastegate pressure it may last forever. Unable to be serviced with OEM parts so when it fails it's a paperweight.

Thank you all for the replies. I will plan to get a real one before this one fails on me.

JusMX141, is the failure sudden and catastrophic usually, or are there things I can watch for in the meantime?

Well, its been awhile, but I started the car up today for the first time since October. Did a big round of work on the car, ACT Clutch/PP/Flywheel, comp clutch release fork, OEM TOB, new CAS, new O2 sensor (Bosch), a TD05H 20G built by Jus, JMF recirculated O2 housing, new oil pressure sending unit, turbo oil supply off filter housing, and got rid of some boost leaks in the TB. I have a bunch of other handling related bits that still need to be installed, but I am moving for work next month, so I will be content just to get the car back on the road in the meantime.

Hopefully I can take her for a drive in the next day or two.

Happy to report that she fired right up first try.

Sadly, it seems that my transaxle and transfer case now have slow leaks. Oh well, add it to the list!

Well, I have a good news bad news update for today.

The good news is that I got the transaxle and transfer case leaks fixed by a shop, and I was able to drive the car over 1700 miles to move it from my former location to my new location. I got some data logging done in route and had a functional tune by the time I got here.

I really enjoyed driving the car for a couple of weeks, manual steering has really grown on me. The meaty midrange was great too.

The bad news is, only a week after getting here, I have suffered a major engine failure. I'm guessing it's due to my poor tuning skills (this is the first car I've tuned) but I won't know for sure what happened until I can tear it apart. It was running great one day, the next I was getting knock detection in places I wasn't before, and then suddenly temps started rising and the engine started making loud knocking sounds with any throttle position. I pulled off the freeway into the shoulder, cooled it down, and when I went to restart the engine didn't want to turn over. It did start, but sounded so bad I shut it down immediately.

Thank goodness for my roadside assistance plan, which thankfully covers 100% of the towing costs.

Now it's time to start planning the next engine. Think ill have a pro tune it this time right out of the gate. Probably do a tear down of the car while I'm at it, and address some corrosion concerns etc.

Oh man, that's terrible news. I wouldn't immediately blame the tune, though it is a possibility. Best of luck on the rebuild.

@Ludachris Thanks man. I am definitely curious to see what I find when I open it up.

@KCDsmDude I was going for a 10 minute jaunt down the freeway when it happened. So I didn't have the logger going. Wish I had, would have been interesting to see what was going on and how hot it got.
