It's still a 90 though, the bastard child of the DSM world in relation to a 1G (I know I know Pop up Headlights).. It has a plethora of things that are 90 only along with a 3 bolt rear ect.. To me this is a car for the DSM enthusiast that thinks there is going to be a collector market someday(although I would like to see under 50k miles), besides, we all know that stock DSM's are BORING.. :).. I think another dealer will most likely pick this up for $11k or so(watch how the bids go up during the last 2 hours) and then try to flip it for $15k..

That car belongs in a museum like Jay Leno's garage.
I whole heartily agree! Super nice car, I know all the 90 specific details can be a pain to someone looking to modify it, but I pray that never happens to this particular car, all the 1990 specific traits make it that much more special in my opinion.

I HAVE to like it, I am a Red 90 Talon guy and that car is immaculate. :)

Aftermarket sunroof kills it, not to mention the repaint wasn't done correctly - wing should be matte black. A true DSMer who wants one to collect would hold out for a more original car.
Those are easy fixes, little bit of paint work will put it right back.

Very true sir, but for the COLLECTOR with the keen eye, these issue would devalue it.. :)..Let's face it, I for one don't think there will ever be a JDM type of collector market for these cars, it will be more of a nostalgia market whereas people think back to their 1st DSM (which was probably their 1st Turbo car) with fond memories and are willing to pay a bit of a premium to own a nice example.. Unfortunately bone stock DSM's are very very boring, so you better have a built DSM so you NEVER even THINK about modifying the stock one.. :D

And where can one find a more original car than this?! I agree with you other observations, but it’s not like there’s some ranch in Oklahoma where a fellow can go pick one out and drive it back to their own museum. I think it goes for ~$14k, but who knows. Between DSMtuners and BringaTrailer, I haven’t seen one like this in years of looking.

They're out there and well worth waiting for over this one. There have been several that popped up recently. Here are a couple (still not 100% original but easier to put back to correct)

OK, the price went over 14k this morning, and there's about an hour left as I'm writing. Probably won't go higher, as this bid was quite a bit higher than the previous. Still, this is probably a good sign for our hobby. While it's not so great if you're looking to buy a nice dsm, the rising values are what will keep the enthusiast market alive. Worth less becomes worthless. Even at this price, this thing probably drives like new and has about 100k miles of life left if decently maintained. Compare that to anything you can buy new today, and I'd still call it a steal. I'm sure we'll see the new buyer on this forum before long, unless they already are!

Wow this makes me sad I didn't take better care of my 1g. I am fortunate enough to have owned a 1g when it was very new.1990 Tsi AWD purchased in 1992 with 36k and it was nicer than this car.
My 2gb Talon is higher mileage but at the moment it's farily unmolested other than koni and urethane bushings. I havne't done anythinig to the car that couldn't be returned to 100% stock and I'm still on original paint. I guess it's true. The car is only original once. Had I just stored it I'm curious what my car would do on BaT. But what fun would that have been.

TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY, sorry it just is, we are talking near EVO prices for a 90 with 72k miles on it, aftermarket sunroof, it's been repainted and did I mention it's a 1990 with all of its quirks and undesirables, oh and it's stock?(BOOOOORRIIING).. :D

It figures that a car dealer (One Way Auto) bid the car up, look for it to be for sale at $20k soon.. :idontknow:

I hear you. I would rather drive and enjoy the car, while trying to keep it maintained than park it in a bubble haha.

Wow! Auction closed just shy of $16k!! I'm sure this will generate comments in our community, as this seems to be a distinct benchmark. I just want to selfishly save all the great photos that the seller took to serve as reference on my own project. I exchanged a few messages with a seller on ebay about 8 months ago who had a decent 1Ga "project" car, not too different from the one I bought, and when I suggested he try Bring a Trailer, he replied that they would not even allow him to list it there. His needed some work, but was a running, fairly complete gsx with like 120k on the odo. We may start seeing an uptick in the presence of dsms on these kind of auction sites. I say bring it on, but I'm sure many here will disagree, which I also respect.

I've heard that Bring a Trailer is more selective of the cars they allow for auction and tend to turn away more "mundane" (for lack of a better term) or non-pristine examples. I guess it's about their image and clientele. I think that's part of why carsandbids.com was created, to fill that void.

Huh, never heard if that one. Thanks for the tip. BaT does have some mundane listings on occasion; 1985 tercel with 40k mi, or 10 yo Mercedes sedans that aren’t even AMG. They also have some basket case projects, like 1965 Alfa Romeo whatevers (talk about parts scarcity!). Plus about 50% are Porsche, and you want to talk overvalued. A dsm will run laps around a 944, and look better too. All these remind me of the old Road & Track Marketplace, which was so cool in the late 70’s, but lame and overpriced dealership fodder by 1988 ( for those who remember). Anyway, I bet we see more dsm on BaT now.

Dude I can’t resist, “quirks and undesirables”, like straight cut oil pump gears, an oil cooler and the strongest factory gear set that ANY body on this forum with a stage 3 or up trans build has Is not “undesirable”, a few years ago sure, but now with input shafts obsolete and stage 3/4 builds No Longer Available from ANY vendor, not to mention straight cut oil pump gears being obsolete and STILL in demand, the 90 model was the OVER engineered gem, period. Who cares if it doesn’t mesh with a 91-94 throttle body or trans, all of Jacks best builds used a “90 style HD gear set”, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, soon the bastard child dam will be one of the most sought after dsm’s.:hellyeah::rocks::dsm:

Sorry I meant a 3/4 hub slider not input shaft, and yes there’s basically a lot of things not “swap able” with the 90 to other years, but their still “interchangeable”. I was pushing 60+ lb per/min thru a dsm82 on a 30 year old STOCK gear set. A 2g gearset on steroids would be envious.
