So I normally use the pioneer metal dual inlet filter on my transmission. These are currently backordered nationwide. I’m aware that mitsubishi offers a filter in the 50 dollar range.... What other cost effective options do we have? Is having dual inlets really that necessary?

I run those and NAPA filters but my son runs a WIX. It is a modified version and REQUIRES you to use the supplied, shorter bolts. He hasn't had any issues at all and runs the piss out of that car.
He used the original bolts the first time because the "supplied" bolts weren't in the box. That led to immediate failure as he ran the bolts into the valve body veins so the parts store had a hell of a time finding us a new "used" VB, but that was the only bad experience with that design. We ran them from the time we got our 1st DSM, probably 10 years ago. All of his have been auto cars. I only have 1 that is an auto so I try to take care of it.
Thats mine/our experience with a WIX replacement.
