I'm working on my plan to put a 2.4 block in my 97 Talon TSI and keeping the 4g63 head.

Will the AC compressor and all the other accessories work without modification? I have ice cold AC and don't want to lose it loI

I found a local running motor from a 1995 Summit, that should work, right? All my prices listed are for my own reference and are totally inaccurate off the top of my head numbers. (I like to go high cuz stuff always gets expensive.)

I know I'll need:
4g64 DOHC cam gears $100
Timing belt / components $800

I'll also be going forged, so:

2.4 forged internals $1000
bearings, plugs, rings, tools, parts, etc $1000 estimate

What else am I missing? Is this link pretty accurate?

Here's a pic for attention, you can't tell the clearcoat is burned off when it rains : D

As long as the 4g64 is the same generation you should be good with the a/c, as for everything else it sounds like your prices are pretty close.

From what I've seen, stock 4g63 cam gears can be used without remarking, but you must be aware of what you're doing on the timing setup. I believe the 2.4 gears essentially swap the sides to account for the tooth offset, but that's just a theory from me.
I'd get adjustables before the stock 4g64 dohc gears personally.

The link you posted addresses a majority of things, so that gets you most of your info.

The cam gears are no longer available so you have to go adjustable. I would also check to make sure the block has provisions for a knock sensor. Sometimes it's there, if not, drill and tap that before you put the motor in.

The 4g64 will drop in with no modifications at all, everything will fit, its the same cast and you won’t have a problem, the knock sensor will be placed in a different hole, so the knock sensor will be in different location but is functional.

Just get a 7 bolt 4g64 so you can reuse all what you have, IF you get a 6 bolt 4g64 (G4CS) then you need to modify the motor mount, different flywheel, etc etc.

There are used cam gears, just look around with time and you should find some, I have 2 sets but they are for my 2 talons, but start looking when you start the build and I’m sure you will have them when you need them.

Yes it will work you simply swap your 7 bolt components over from your 4g63t, the a/c bracket should bolt right on to the 4g64 block, and if you are careful you won't need to depressurize the a/c system, just unbolt the compressor while the engine is out, from the block bracket and support the compressor with a cord or put something under it bucket box etc.

Awesome. I'm gonna snag this engine then. 1995 2.4 summit.

I want the whole thing!
Still mad I didn't just buy the whole expo I got my 2.4 6 bolt out of...

it doesn’t has a 6 bolt, the 95 has a 7 bolt engine.

The 95 that Erik is getting his from does yes.
If you re-read my post, it states that I got my 6bolt from an expo, and that I wished I'd bought the whole thing. The expo I got mine from was a 92.

All good

There was a fellow student when I was in college that had a boosted awd expo/summit. It sounded amazing and was pretty quick, sadly I never got to look under the hood and get more details, but it made me want one, and now with a family materializing, I feel like one could fit my desires and duties nicely.

Sorry for cluttering up the thread @ErikTande !

Post more questions if you have em!
