Dont count out your local Junkyard!! I Went to my local junkyard and found a Eclipse with tons of stuff I wanted. All black interior, clean tail lights, turbo wing, weatherstripping, etc. Pulled all the black interior it had left (both interior panels, and rear speaker panels and center console). I then found another Eclipse with black plastic pieces on the door panel. So I removed the plastic and went home and took apart both door panels and reassembled it so I have black on black door panels. (Black leather, with black plastic trim). You have to be very careful removing these plastic pieces, as they are easy to break but if your careful if will come out clean. I walked out of the junkyard only paying $58 for all of the above.

Some background on the Car: I bought the car for $4700 at the time, in LA from this guy back in 2003. The car was Tiel greenish/blue at the time. I remember the car having pristine extremely clean grey interior. You could tell the dude took good care of the car. No rust whatsoever. Only issue was a cracked radiator, on the plastic part of the OEM radiator. So a little JB Weld and I took her home, no issues. From there I started building the motor.

8:5:1 Compression Ross Racing Pistons bored 40 over w/Eagle Rods

Race bearings

ARP everything

Balance shafts removed and anything else that could stop the infamous "Crankwalk"

Balance and blue printed the whole rotating assembly

Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel w/ New ACT 2600 clutch

All your average bolt ons (intake, exhaust, DP). The head was completely stock.

Then I took it to GT Motorsports in Rancho Cucamonga, CA to have the car tuned. I explained to them that I wanted a conservative tune. Nothing crazy, just like a tune per say like you would get from a factory car coming from Mitsubishi. This is also the place where the owner blew up my freshly built motor on the dyno and claimed it somehow crankwalked. I was sooooo pissed. Even now if I think about how much money I spent on that first motor it pisses me off. Well back to Square one and needing a motor and doing lots of research at the time. I went and did a 6 bolt swap and had the motor rebuilt. Took a decent amount of time to work out all the bugs to with mine being a 95. Fast forwarding, and 8 years later here I am still modifying and working on it. I love DSMs and even though she is 25 years old I am never going to part with her. I literally consider this a modern antique. You don't see many of these around anymore.

Update: installed ECMLINK v3 and purchased a $200 HP Pavilion 17" 128 SSD Laptop for it and I must say I like it. It's heavy and doesnt slide around at all. Its perfect for tuning in the car. I also ordered a Ortiz custom 3 gauge center vent pod. My New AEM X Series wideband came in today as well. Was bummed to find out that the new AEM X Series gauges dont fit in it. Guess I will have to install it somewhere else. Also ordered a STM 2.5" Throttle Body Elbow with AIT for Speed Density setup. I purchased the Kit from Kenny Kline (ECMLINK, ECU and SD Setup with Plug n Play harness). Cant wait for this to come in so I can get ride of that MAF sensor and install my new Extreme PSI 4" chrome intake and 9" K&N Air Fliter, it is recirculated, so I will just plug it. More to come...

UPDATE: Car is overheating. I installed a new 160 degree thermostat and flushed my radiator twice. Problem still exists. It seems that the fans are not turning on when they are supposed to. I went to MISC tab in Ecmlink v3 and I can turn the fans on that way. So I know the fans work. They are wired like they where to the factory. The are x2 slimline fans. I read somewhere here on dsm tuners that when you pull your Coolant Temp Sensor plug off the fans should kick on automatically but mine does not and just makes some electrical buzz sound. I'm not sure if it's a relay or what, nor do I know how to actually test a relay. And of course my meter is at a friends house so I cannot test the Coolant Temp sensor at the moment. I do log my coolant temp and it seems to be working as it reads the temp changing. Though I do need to get a meter on it and test it.

Registration tags came in today. Super happy to put a fresh tag on the car since it hadn't had one since 2011.

24 way coilovers are in as well as some OEM style black housing headlights, and a set of G Plus hose kit.

For those that don't know the car has been sitting for 8 yrs + in my driveway uncovered (like a idiot, I know) so the paint is completely destroyed, Clear coat is gone, etc. So I took it to Rod Broz Autobody and got a quote for any color, completely sanded down (DA and alot of hand sanding, blocking, etc), new weather stripping, install turbo spoiler, etc $2500. Not bad. 3 stage Primer, 3 stage Paint, 3 stage Clear Coat. Now I just cannot decided what color I want!!! I have narrowed it down

1. Red + black hood
2. Nardo Grey + black hood
3. Hyper White + black hood
4. Dodge Destroyer Nardo Grey + black hood

So far I'm leaning on Hyper White and or Nardo Grey. Ahhhhhh its so hard to pick a color because I can pick any color. Suggestions? Thought about a Teal but I just cant decide.

Currently working on or soon to be installing:

Install full SD Setup, Full rebuilt 1g Throttle body modified to 68mm by Steve Monroe, New TB and TB elbow gaskets, Coilovers, AEM X Series Wideband. I'm going to be dyeing the carpet black (currently grey) so hopefully it turns out good or I'm buying a new one from StockInteriors.com

So I had some issue with overheating. My slim line iForge race fans won't turn on. Checked ECMLINK and I can manually turn them on that way, so I know they have power. I purchased a new coolant 2 wire temp sensor and installed it. In the process I switched over to a full SD setup.

Now the car wont idle long enough to see if it overheats. I'm still new to v3 ECMLINK. I did purchase ECMLINK SD harness so it's all plug n play. It plugs into a GM or AEM IAT, MDP sensor (gm, omni, etc), and the MAF sensor plug. With alot of adjusting, readjusting, etc I have managed to use extreme psi 4" pipe with a 9" K&N Air fliter all while using a 4 core Koyo Radiator and iForged fan shroud, and STILL be able to use the stock 2g coolant overflow.

Had some maintenance issues. Fans wouldn't on and would cause car to overheat. Changed out Coolant temp sensor. Old one most definitely seen better days. So I am glade I got that switched you. In the process I went full SD. And it caused the car not to want to idle. Found all I needed to do was unplug all SD sensor and replug them back in. Last time fans wouldnt turn on via ECMLINK after fixing SD issue. Found the problem, loose connection. Fixed, wont happen again. And then when I fired it up of course a coolant leak (this car cuts me no breaks). So I had to RIP everything out again. Busted out my G Plus Hose Kit and went to work. Changed out my beat up battery Terminals for some new ones. This is how it works. Slowly but surely getting her fixed up and looking good one day at a time. Im going to look into relocating the battery to the Trunk.. More to come soon. Cheers!
