Just a thought, what do you guys think of me buying some Aluminium plate and welding it together to create rear diff mounting brackets?

Something like those below(Which are billet), but mine would be welded.

perhaps with a deep rosette/plug weld on the backside.

Maybe instead of just using 2 pieces of plate, could possibly use tube aligned properly as well.

Reason I'm looking at doing this, is I have the means to do so, and I don't wanna spend as much money as the billet ones cost(Although I'm sure they are well worth it)

I did it with steel. Had access to a plasma at one of my previous jobs and I cut a bunch out of 1/4” plate and tig’d them up. I used a piece of pipe with a control arm bushing pressed in for the bushing.

Thanks for the reply.

I was thinking of doing it with steel, then I was like, dang Rust(I know I can paint it) then I was like..hmm stainless..but then I was like..man $$.

Aluminium seemed to be much less expensive.

I'm glad someone has done something similar.

Do you happen to have any pics of yours?

I was just going to take the stock one I have, and draw out the same dimensions, but you are right I can pick any size for bushings, control arm ones probably pretty decently sized.

EDIT: Did you use some sort of standoff/plate for alignment? (To like line up the holes)

Since I fab’d it from plate I just put everything where I wanted it and welded it. The only part you can’t do that with is the base plate with the bolt holes obviously.

I don’t have any pics that I know of. If I remember next time I’m out in the shop I’ll snap a pic

Thanks a ton!!

So basically, you kinda installed diff in Subframe and then welded it up from there yeah?

Im trying to take my stock one here and draw it up haha. prob should just do what you did.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Yeah I just took dial calipers and measured out the bolt pattern and drew it up in cad. Bolted it to the diff, tacked it together, pressed in the bushing, bolted the weld on ear that goes to the subframe, tacked it on, then took it apart and welded it.
