Is all what you need from a 2g? I live in fresno CAli but I’ll be in Parker next month (15) for work.
There are some junkyards here and there are some eclipses. They are not turbo but if you need anything from a non turbo that will fit your car, let me know, I can pull it of and take it with me so you don’t have to pay shipping, that will kill you, fenders and staff like that are bulky and will cost. I have some extra stuff from my Dsm and can help out to get you going.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not planning to get red of my spare stuff, but I’ll be more then happy to give it to you to get going and when ever you can return it back to me, and I mean when ever you find the part, buy it and send it to me,
Let me know or PM for details if you are interested so we can keep your journal clean.

Good news! Someone messaged me on here saying they had some very rare OEM BNIB Rear AWD toe arms for a good price so I snagged those!

The rockers I will have to cut out of a junkyard eclipse here, no big deal. Just have to wait for a good one.

I have hope that my rear LSD axles can be saved and rebuilt by a local axle shop. And my fuel filler neck could possibly be blasted and fixed.

Really, just a new driver fender is what I have had the hardest time finding..

Man..I don't know why it took me this long to figure out that you had a build thread for this car. Better late than never. I started on page one, and your intro sounded a lot like my situation. I bought my '99 GSX when I was 16 too with a spun rod and traveled along many of the exact same steps that you did.
Fortunately, I reached a point of either selling it or diving in with no looking back as far as restoring it to what it deserved to be. The rear fender wells were so rusted that it scared me into thinking there HAD to be so much more rust that I was just unaware of. Though I prevented many hours of headache by selling it, there's a part of me this misses it here and there. I applaud you for going the distance and restoring this car. It's very satisfying getting to live vicariously through you and your updates. Not to mention your home renovation projects on IG. :D That staircase is so pleasing now.
Anyway, good luck Brady and keep on going!

Haha thanks man it means a lot! The home renovation stuff is a little bit more satisfying as I walk up those stairs dozens of times a day and the fact that money put into the house is adding more value than I spend etc. So its easy for me to pick the house projects over the car projects. But I'm getting married this year and don't feel droping 10k on the eclipse is the wisest decision at the moment. But I am sticking to my plan of having as much things as I can find powdercoated/painted/replace and then a full glass out respray.

I will all be worth it!

Update: I have a ton of parts for this thing.. Really on the fence about buying my own blast cabinet to blast everything. With the amount of small brackets and stuff I want blasted, I'm almost positive it would be cheaper to buy the compressor and cabinet...

Still need rocker panels left/right, and a fuel filler neck.

Peace!

Yo!

Decided to start checking some stuff off the list.

All of this is getting media blasted this Saturday. Also will bring the rear knuckles to get those done, just weren't in the pic.

Slowly but surely! Everything in the pic besides the calipers will be gloss black. Calipers will be candy red to match the valve cover at some point, but everything is just getting blasted right now.

If anyone has any ideas what to do for the drive shaft, as it has a decent amount of surface rust, let me know. Thinking just wire wheel as much as I can and then brush on some Eastwood rust inhibitor w/ black on top.

Peace!

POR15 is the shit (in a good way). Paints on well too. Fair warning whatever this stuff gets on is basically permanently bonded for life but it will NEVER rust again as long as you follow the instructions and prepare well, which won't be a problem for you.

Yep, very familiar with the stuff, but I won't be going with it for a couple reason. The Eastwood rust inhibitor (brush on) with a 3M undercoating top coat on the unibody with Eastwood internal frame coating will work amazing for my setup.

I had some downtime so I wanted to continue getting this thing torn apart to replace/coat/clean/paint everything.

Just need to remove the subframe and some exhaust hangers and the underneath will be officially BARE, then clean clean clean. First round of parts sand blasted is done, I will be picking that stuff up today. I'm thinking everything will be gloss black this time around, no more wrinkle black.

Peace!

Not that's what I call some serious weight reduction! :p

Keep up the good work Brady. Love the garage floor BTW. My buddy has floors like that too.

I think Tuner was responding to your question about the driveshaft rust. POR-15 is our go-to rust preventer now. Just be sure not to spray undercoating on your driveshaft as it is a balanced assembly.

Correct I was only talking about the driveshaft rust. Thick undercoating could have the potential to unbalance it.

Well yeah, never said anything about undercoating the driveshaft. I will wire brush everything I can and probably just do the Eastwood rust inhibitor Platinum then Black over that.

I got my first batch back from the blaster! Obviously have to remove a lot of the bushings and some other stuff but glad to know none of the parts were too far gone to save.

This lot includes:

-Rear Brembos
-Diff cover
-Gas tank straps
-Rear subframe bushing plates
-Rear upper control arms & mounting brackets
-Gas tank filler pipe bracket
-Rear diff cast bracket w/ bushing
-All the rear bumper brackets
-Mint Rear license plate bracket (impossible to find...)
-Rear bumper frame rail brackets
-Rear sway bar brackets and rear subframe cross brace
-Rear LCA's
-Front shock fork things

Still need to get blasted:

-Rear Brembos
-Front & Rear knuckle/spindles
-Front & Rear subframes
-Transmission mounts
-Lower subframe brackets
-Front crossmember
-Various timing covers
-Various engine brackets

Everything I've just mentioned is getting powdercoated gloss black except the brembos and the aluminum parts. Some things may end up being painted by myself If i decide I can't justify the cost.. Someone persuade me otherwise?

The never ending slow stream of BNIB OEM goodies continues with these brand new rear light lenses and a brand new gas tank cap.

Some things I am pretty much set on buying are:

Front & Rear sway bars
New brake rotors.. some floating girodisc would be sweet.....

Can't wait for this pic to be the next before pic!

Just finished reading this, epic build man! Very inspiring. My GSX has been in pieces in Illinois for almost a decade. I started digging into it, ran out of money and time, then relocated for work... The good news is, I'll be starting a build of my own next week after I bring the car out here to Ohio! I'm sure I'll be doing plenty of rust repair as well, so thank you for all the detail you've put into this thread. Hooray for salty Midwest roads and vehicle designs that trap water, right?! Keep up the good work!

Yo!

Still slowly doings here and there (busy with other things for the time being) But I did want to pull the motor/trans just to get the front subframe down and get everything else that will be blasted & powdercoated!

So I pulled the motor and removed intake/exhaust manifolds.

Then I figured..... while I'm doing all of this, why would I go through all this trouble to not double-check the block/head.

The head will be getting rebuilt/refreshed! Not sure what parts I'm going to throw into it yet, I need to research a bit more..

I'm glad I'm taking my time with this one. I really want everything that bolts to the shell to be mint, new, refurbished, coated, painted etc etc etc. Even plan on getting all the bolts re-zinc plated (way too excited for that!)

This way, if for whatever reason, I can swap everything to a MINT shell (only if a 99 white w/black & 5spd comes up for sale that is MINT).

I keep going back and forth on if I should just paint some of the pieces like the bumper brackets that will legit NEVER be seen again, but idk. Would hate for something to chip/rust if I painted it.

That's all I got for now!

Peace

-Brady

instead of painting the parts you are thinking why not powder coat then you wouldn't have to worry about chipping/rust at least not for a longer time

Yo!

I bit the bullet and decided that since the head is off, has 120k miles, and is completely stock except for valve stem seals and kelford 272's it was time to do a mild build up.

Pretty stoked! I'll get the build sheet over tomorrow and post up on here, definitely wasn't cheap but something I've always wanted to do.

I also have a lead on the following parts that were holding up my progress:

-Pass/Driver lower rocker panels
-Rear LSD axles
-Awd fuel pump hanger
-Awd fuel pump filler neck
-Rear knuckle/spindle assemblies (mine are just too rusty, can't get the axles out. Can possibly save them and have some spare axles)

I'm also getting close to my PE exam (sep. 1st) and my wedding (nov 7th) but after that it is full steam on the dsm. Just gathering parts at the moment.

Also wondering if I should bite the bullet and get the whole thing media blasted... Quotes seem to be $1,000 to $1,500...

Peace!

For my 2g head (stock and original) I am doing the following:

-GSC Intake Valves
-GSC Exhaust Valves
-GSC Valve Guides
-GSC Valve stem seals
-Kiggly street springs
-Kiggly HLA
-Machined/cleaned/etc etc

Also have a Bulfab crossmember on the way!

Peace

-Brady
