Back story, I've owned this car for about 13 years (93 Eclipse GSX), I'm planning on moving everything to a new chassis (93 Eclipse GSX, modified chassis). This new chassis has nothing in it for wiring, and the expectations are wiring only the essentials to be street legal. I'm not looking to pull the previous chassis harness, as I don't want to bring over the bloat of the factory harness and unnecessary crap.

I think the main focus would be to make sure the engine harness is powered correctly, charging circuit, and fuel pump, etc. So, everything necessary to get the car running, that's not a part of the engine harness, I'll worry about wiring for lighting and what not, that's not a big deal.

This is to initiate discussion on what would be necessary, in the wiring, to complete the task of building a minimal chassis harness. With that being said, I have an original 91+ chassis and engine harness, if things would be easier to reuse in the end game. I just would not prefer to use, or hack that.

I've searched around, but couldn't find anything specific, and also not willing to spend days on end trying to find material that someone has already had experience in, that could reference in a couple minutes. I am certainly open to other threads that would help, but it would be nice to have everything in one spot, considering the topic.

The best way to do it is read a lot of posts and research and back probe all the wires, depending on what you mod delete or relocate, you may end up going a vary different route then someone else, you have to decide if you can live without these items or if you want to just relocate them, many guys will delete for example the rear defogger relay that is in the main harness, but regardless you have to mark everything with a marker and masking tape take pictures and document everything if you forget or mess something up there is a great post on here that details all the wire connectors with pictures from 19Eclipse90 I will leave you what I feel are some of the most helpful links below get ready for information overload enjoy:

Thank you for that mitsubishikid, I can certainly find some useful information through those videos. Although, I want to make it clear, I'm looking to build/wire a chassis wiring harness, not a engine wiring harness.

If you're building a chassis harness from scratch you need to start with a relay/distribution box first. Once you have your relay box you can branch out the power you need for all the components you plan on running. Running lights, brake, headlights, turn signals... Etc. It's pretty simple but at the same time it's also easier to just thin out the stock wiring. The guage cluster it's probably the more difficult part when wiring from scratch because of all the indicator light but it's not bad once you actually start probing and have diagram in front of you.

Thanks for your input lasthope5. I will not be using the stock gauge cluster.

I've been working on some wiring diagrams for a fresh chassis harness from scratch, when I get time. I've put together the following overview diagram that I think is pretty complete for my intentions as a high end complete chassis rewire. Couple things that stand out here ..
  1. This was modeled for the stock ECU (DSMLink), hence the pin numbers, since it has already taken me into the 9s it would be a good start. After some time, my intentions would be moving to an aftermarket ECU
  2. The fuel pump will be powered by a manual switch, not by the MPI. I haven't decided on the external fuel pump yet
Since there wasn't much talk on this topic, I figured it would be good to continue this thread. I'm certainly open to discussion for making things better.
