Hi everyone, first post here. Longtime car guy but just picked up my first DSM - a 98 GST Spyder 5-sp that was 100% bone stock. Just finished getting all the maintenance done and now it’s time to mod. Plans are for a mild build DD, and keeping it FWD.
Thanks for having this forum and I look forward to learning.

Welcome to the best DSM forum on the internet. I just joined myself a few months ago. I have a 98 GST that was in non running condition when I bought it, and got it running pretty decent with help from other members input here. Lots of good tips. Hope you will find it equally helpful. Be sure and post pics and update your car profile build thread for us.
Cheers!

Timing/balance belt; pulleys
Engine flush, oil+filter change
Clutch & brake fluid flush
New calipers/pads/rotors
Coolant change
Tranny oil change
New accessory belts
spark plugs
air filter
new tires
OBD scan
I think that’s everything.

Make sure all of your sensors are in proper working order especially the engine coolant temperature sensor the throttle position sensor, EGR valve, MAF sensor, and you may want to perform a boost leak test if it's a turbo especially make sure there's no vacuum or boost leaks anywhere.

all good advice, thank you.
i replaced most of the vac lines as well and cleaned out the TB. i do need to get around to performing a boost leak test, though.

eventual goal is to swap to a Big T28 or MHI 16g. not sure which yet.

MHI 16g turbo is pretty nice little unit. It will serve you well. That's what I have now and it is better than the stock Turbo. If you can find an original EVO 3 16g Turbo that is even better. And you may still be able to use your stock injectors as long as you have a good fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump. Fun fun!
