I've had some stuff for awhile that I kind of forgot about. I dont really look for stuff so I don't know demand. I've got 2 complete cases and maybe enough stuff to put them together. Is there a demand? I do not want to spend a bunch of money and then end up with units I can't sell. I am building a fresh unit for myself and I have my original as a backup plus these two others.
Anybody wanna chime in?

What exactly do you have?

Do you have 97-99 items?

I think @twicks69 would be the best person to answer the question on demand for trans/drivetrain parts, along with what pieces may have been discontinued that builders may want.
Tim and I have spoken before. Those services for racers will likely always have some demand. I'm talking about a stock rebuilt unit or possibly just reassembled units. I took them apart years ago and just left them that way as I didn't need to reassemble. Now I'm considering selling before these cars are so old they aren't wanted anymore except by those few that do it themselves anyway. I thought I would just keep them but jeez I don’t need 4 transmissions

^ I think that's what everyone wants currently, -to pick the hard to get pieces out. There's probably not very much demand for a stock rebuilt awd trans otherwise. People know the manuals don't hold up to abuse well without upgrades. The trend I see is everyone chasing a big horsepower number on the dyno for as cheap as possible. Every 20 something on here is strapping on an FP Black and dropping in 280 cams. There's very few who just want their car as a warmed over street machine. Most have these as purely hobby cars or build projects and have newer, more modern, more luxury oriented daily drivers.

I feel like I have seen the opposite trend. When I first got my Talon~10 years ago and visited this site I would have agreed with you. But as of late I have seen a shift towards adult owners looking for nostalgia or those who appreciate the capabilities of the platform and have money behind them to do it right. These are no longer cheap and easy power with a growing lack of new OEM parts, worn out cars that have been messed with and modified by 10 different people, and the shrinking aftermarket. I am not saying you can't pick up a cheap dsm and build it cheap but that doesn't appear to be the route most take these days. Bobby's and Paul Volk's suspension and chassis parts with real engineering and design behind them, Morrison and Archer making top quality manifolds and exhaust components. A couple examples of where the platform has gone as these people seem to be selling pretty well. Group buys are full, websites being stocked with new parts consistently, and seeing their components listed in more and more profiles. A shift towards owners with real money to spend. Maybe not GTR money, but those that want high quality parts for their old Mitsubishis.
I am that category you describe. My DSMs are not daily's or anywhere close to it. But I don't think the trend is towards owners who are cheaping out. Mostly because I don't think you can anymore. It's a commitment of time and money to make one of these cars run right when they were so popular to modify for so long and the newest one you can buy is two decades old. Just my thoughts.

Dam I will take that as a compliment. FP BB black and well 272 cams and in Nov ,51 years roaming this planet.

Don't forget the little guys also. FTY, Evopspec, Bobby. This is from FTY.

This is definitely true! I've spent 2k just getting mine running right and fixing issues since I bought it 6 months ago. And it didn't have any major engine/transmission or turbo issues either. Next time I'll just buy a parts car for 1k....if I can find one....

They are on Facebook. FTY racing. They build in batches or one offs. Need light wieght quick releas hinges for those fiberglass or carbon fiber doors.

Well, perhaps I am indeed a bit out of touch. I will be glad to stand corrected in this case. I very rarely ever use Facebook and it seems like I may be missing out on a portion of the community. When I want info or to see car stuff, I don't go to fb to get it. I do agree, the high-end parts we have available are awesome and the continued innovation by those individuals making them is a great sign for those of us who prefer "fast with class".

I'm trying to see if some of these parts makers wanna put up a banner on the site. I even drilled Bobby about a branding for his products. It would be nice to see these products and the people who make them under this dsmtunners roof.

Evospec. Under drive pully for the water pump with titanium bolts and its priced fairly. Then the build quality of thier products. Top notch

But when it came to part hoarding this was me about 7 years ago. I would buy rusty or non title cars for cheap. Resell the cars or brake them down for parts. Had 2 awd and the rest were fwd turbo and one spyder. Now I goto pick n pull to save talon body parts when I can . Thier are very few 2g around let alone 1g cars.

Since parts printing is the rage these days, it would be nice to have some one dedicated to the platform. To start of with switch bezels(especially spyders) ,the little triangle at the top of the door panels ,fog light bezels. I have noticed that these plastics and more get brittle over time , So it would be a nice little nich market for the right person.

Finish those units up and sell them for anywhere from 700-1000 each. All day long.

I turned 50 in April. Loved driving my Dad’s Laser in the early 90’s. Live fairly comfortably, and am doing a stock resto of an unmolested 90 gsx survivor that needed (needs) tlc. Oem parts have been vanishing in just the one year I’ve been working on mine. Not sure if I represent some growing trend, but the more folks like me get into it, car and part values will start climbing. I look at the early 90’s As a golden era not unlike the 60’s pony cars. Anyone who can hold on to original, usable components will do well on ebay or dsmtuner classifieds as years go by. I’m not anti-modify, really shows how brilliant the stock base was. Just not my goal on mine.

I'm thinking I need to create a dedicated "3D Parts Printing" section under tech articles so people can share their printing plans?
