First time posting, and been searching like crazy on the forums and most threads seem to be out of date with no links to pictures, so asking once again. I was changing the o2 sensors on my 95 gsx and notices this ground strap wrapped around the rubber mounting after the Catalytic Converter. the other end was broken off.

My Question is what is this ground strap for and where should the other end connect to? Adding a picture for reference.

Thanks!!

That wire strap is to ground out any static charge buildup on the exhaust pipe but is not essential to normal car operation. {It does not provide a ground for the rear O2 as some say - that O2 has it's own grounds in its harness plug.} The wire strap attaches to the catalytic convertor heat shield (looks like you might have a hole in the lip on yours for it).

To further add, both those straps are for your audio system. It cancels out the noise produced from the exhaust.

Thanks all, I dug through the electrical Service manual and found its technically called a "earth cable" I tapped it to the cat's heat shield. Added a picture for anyone with the same question in the future as well.

Hi,

I recently had an alarm installed. The alarm installer cut my ground near catalytic converter. Installer tapped into my ignition switch harness and added a relay, made my starter turn on/grind everytime I steeped on clutch.

Driving home car stalled about 3x. I'm pretty sure my O2 sensor was reading wrong and it had wrong air/fuel mixture and that's why my car stalled.

He also put warning lights on my car, exhaust, fuel intake

Please help with grounding location.

Thanks,

Van

The ground strap connects to the catalytic convertor where I circled. That is the corner on the driver side of the car towards the front. You can buy a universal ground strap and make it work. The original is 6 inches long. But you can buy a longer one and roll it up with a zip tie.

Also, don't give anymore business to that alarm installer. He does wiring like a child.

Thanks dude,

there is more he alarm installer did also he cracked my windshield where water could ceep into fuse location, he tried to charge me $225 for my own acutuator that he only to connect to wires to. Buddy a douche, karma will get him!

My eclipse is tribute for Paul Walker.
