Hi everyone. I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse gs. I'm really hoping to really turn her into a racing car. I got her about 2 years ago and just finished paying her off so now I really want to build her and show her true potential. Also just need a bit of help with that and hopefully you guys can.

I was a probationary member at one time too. Your welcome is just as good as mine, thanks for being so kind to welcome them in!

Thanks for the kind words..

I just purchased a 96 talon . I live in NYC and currently take the subway to work, that was the reason for buying a car. Wasn't looking for anything specific but I knew I wanted a manual.

Purchased on 7 13 20. Can't wait to get it to the Mechanic.
Can't take it yet. DMV is crazy right now. Waiting on registration. (By mail)

Welcome! It's always nice to see the ladies get into the forums and start modding their cars! Back in 1988 when I was in auto tech school, there was only 1 gal in the class. She was kinda rough looking, smoked, drank and cussed like one of the guys. It was uncommon back then. Things have changed for the better :)

I've found the information here, along with the moderators and the DSM wisemen's input to be exceptional. And the members have been great too.

Welcome to the forum, you likely won't get much help on here for a 3rd gen eclipse, we mostly deal with the 1st ad 2nd gens on here, but i'm willing to offer my insight as far as adding more power goes here is what you can do.

Engine OPTION 1: turbo swap your stock sohc 4G64 engine via evo 8-9 turbo with manifold should bolt right onto the 4g64 engine thats in your car, injectors maf sensors I may be forgetting a few things, but it is possible with free or near free engine management software you can download not sure you might need a manual 3g eclipse ecu for that.

Engine OPTION 2; more involved yet you still save some money: do a Dohc Head swap or get the whole engine the cheapest way is to source an Hyundai/ Kia G4JS 2.4 dohc head or complete motor but you want to use the same block on your eclipse you can and simply use the timing components for the same year "01-"05 kia optima or Hyundai sonata, the G4JS engine you can google image search G4JS hyundai/kia engine for reference of what they look like, but be aware they are sometimes hid under plastic engine covers
these kia/hyundai 2.4 evo clone engines are vastly cheaper then the evo 4-9 engines, you would otherwise have to source, and they offer about the same performance potential as the evo head and if you get the complete G4JS engine and after adding up the cost of buying forged pistons rods arp fasteners etc it would cost the same as doing up a forged evo motor minus the evo tax for the engine.

Engine Option 3: the most costly, buy an evo engine if you plan to awd swap it you may consider getting an evo half-cut so you get the transmission engine and the driveshaft etc you likely will get more then you need to swap it.

Transmission options:
With any of these engine options the next weak link would be your stock auto transmission which will likely give up the ghost if not in good condition, but if in your case it handles the power once you make around 350hp give or take, there really would be no real point making any more power the wheels will be spinning on stock street tires, unless you run slicks and at that point you will be stressing the axles next, you can also swap from auto to manual, and at this point you may even consider going with an awd manual evo transmission swap, to help get the power down to the ground at all 4 wheels you will need a 95-99 2g eclipse talon awd rear sub-frame axles control arms knuckles etc, the, you will have to swap the rear diff for evo internal rear diff so the gear ratios match the evo transmission and it's a better diff anyway, if you want a strong transmission then avoid the 6 speed evo transmissions, and source a 5 speed evo transmission, there are a few little details or supporting items that i'm missing here and there but this is pretty much a recipe for making a 3g eclipse GSX pretty much or gst if you stay fwd.

If there is any more info you may need you can research/join or checkout this website https://www.club3g.com

If this is your daily driver or the only car you have, and you only want a little more power option 1 is what I'd suggest starting with this youtube video has some info on what you could expect

Might be tough turning that car into a race car - my wife had one for a little while and I remember it had some shortcomings to it in regards to performance. This site isn't full of members who know that year Eclipse well, but as you can already tell, some people here will be willing to try and help where they can anyway.

Ok let me start by saying I new to the forum and the whole eclipse and talon world. And I had no ideal that this world was soo huge.
I got this 96 eagle talon all by accident almost.
PURCHASE date 7 13 20 .
Just want to do the little things I'm capable of before I hit the mechanic shop $$$
Soo I wanted to know about spark plugs and wires.

Welcome to the site Ashley P .. Nice to see another 3G . I added you to my follow group , very interested to know more about your car and it would be great if you could post some picture and the info to your profile . I believe your car is a GS Spyder being a convertible ? ..

Thank you for the idea and information. I'll look into all of those. She doesn't need to be crazy fast just faster then what she is now. Im thinking a evo head with a turbo would be just fine. But i will definitely look into all my options. Thank you again so much.

no problem, I have swapped mitsu mirages/colts, and this sort of research stuck with me, IPT or import performance transmissions might offer a valve body upgrade for your stock auto transmission, if you want to run a shift kit, but I think you have to send your old one in to them they might also have some further upgrades that you can do to strengthen your stock auto transmission which help keep it more reliable.
