If any was has chased down a vacuum leak you know how frustrating that can be . I can`t remember where I found this article about a home smoker but here is my version of that article . I went to a paint store and got a fresh empty paint can . I added a screw in valve stem in the side of the can . I added a 3/8s barb to the top of the can with a length of vacuum hose . Place a few bricks of charcoal from the barbecue in the bottom of your can , with your propane torch light them up nice and hot . Drop in some cardboard and put the lid on.. Tape off your throttle body and find a suitable vacuum line to hook the smoker too . ( remember to seal off the line you are using with the smoker ) You wont need much air ( maybe 5psi ) to push the smoke into the engine.. Watch for any smoke coming out and that is your vacuum leak.

That's funny i made one of my own too about two months ago, chasing down a boost leak that ended up being the throttle shaft seals.

This is a much better way to go about this cheaply.

Ive seen the home made smokers with conductive wire and a wick with baby oil? Is that right?

That seemed a little much to me, but this is certainly easy and cheap!

I will def be doing this!!

Thanks for the post!

I've used a soldering iron wrapped around a sock with mineral oil and some inlet and outlet ports in a plastic pasta sauce jar.

Works great.

Man, I saw the title and got all excited thinking we were gonna talk about homemade BBQ smokers.

I am so disappointed. Saw a video where Alton Brown made his own smoker out of a big cardboard box, a hot plate, cast iron skillet, some chunks of wood, and some slats/metal grate that I've been wanting to try recently.

This thread sucks. :p (only joking, nobody get all offended)

Lol Scotty Kilmer used a cigar for that purpose in a YouTube video, but I don’t think that’s the way to go.

As far as bbq smokers, I’ve seen some genius stuff done with 55 gallon drums cut in half etc.

Who has time to bbq though when the DSM needs more work!
