I hope to take out my 2.0 420a engine and trans and rebuild it for turbo strong enough to handle at least 500hp. I’m not sure what all to use to rebuild the whole engine (and trans if necessary). The whole car has 132,000 miles on it. Trans shifts good engine ran fine until head gasket went bad. It has been ran on for about 8 months but only gave trouble ran over 45min then throttle would fall and sputter very bad. It has rust in the usual spots but especially inside the front driver side piller down to the bottom. The engine bay needs a good clean and there is a small patch of chipped rust on the wheel well. It’s a hard choice to make with working on this one, or buying a gst to fix up and personalize. Because either way I want to achieve 500hp and cost lots of money. Just don’t know which way would be best, not too risky, or costly.

To achieve your goals, upgrading the bottom end internals is a must. I have some forged rods and pistons available in the classified section. Good luck with your build.

Thanks! Is the engine and trans even good enough to hold up 500hp when rebuilt? It is over 132k miles, driven on a bad head gasket, and the trans ran with no fluid once. The inside of the piller on driver side is rusted inside down to the door jam. And the driver door had to be welded on because it was out of alignment and it still hits the door jam.

I really can't speak to what the limits are for the 420a engine. As far as your other concerns, I would think the block would be fine. Taking it to a machine shop would be beneficial as they can tell you how the cylinders look as well as the shape of the crank. In order to use the pistons that I'm selling, you'd have to have the cylinders bored out +.020". The trans and body questions are outta my wheelhouse.

I believe it would be best to settle down with a 95-99 Eclipse with a 4G in it. The 4G is my primary goal. And this car is just beat. It has already cost me over 2k. Thanks much!
