So, for a high school shop project we've been building a gsx. 1995 GSX. We have the shortblock from a 1992 Galant VR4 in it. All that said, we put the 2g head on the 1g block. Our old 2g block and 1g head got stolen. Right now we have a hole in the back passenger side of the head where I'd suppose a CAS would go, but I've worked on 1g and 2g eclipses in the past, as well as 3kgts, and I'm drawing a blank what the exact part looks like that goes there. I was imaging a larger CAS, but I think that is just 1gs? I'm looking at Google image, but I'm having a hard time telling, from up close pictures, whether I'm looking at 1gs or 2gs.

What goes there? This is a total noob question... Sorry.

P.s. I'll add that it doesn't help that we have a few boxes of mixed parts off of a few cars here, so it's not like we have just what came off our one car...

If its on a 95' originally there was a plug that goes there, you usually get that plug with the valve cover gasket set or you can buy it alone, the 95' had the cam sensor under the intake cam gear on the timing belt side. Alot of guys run the older first gen cam sensor in that spot and yes its sort of big but not as big as other cars such as Honda's or Acura's. In 1997 Mitsubishi went back to mounting it back on the passenger side of the head and came up with a much smaller sensor for that area. Google a picture of the different years of cam sensors for 1995, 1997, and 1991 and you will see the different styles used.

Ok, cause the sensor that Oreilly's was pulling up looks nothing like the 1g and later 2g ones I've seen before. I've had a few DSMs, but never a 95 before and I was drawing a blank.

Needs the 2ga intake cam with trigger plate to work

2gb CAS which mounts in a housing on the passenger side of the intake cam (specifically it's the black plastic sensor sticking out the back of the housing)

Keep in mind that the CAS you choose will affect the car's ability to run based on what ECU you have as well. If you plan on installing ECMlink, then this is a moot point as the software can take care of the differences in ECU expectation and CAS output signal.

You can try to sneak it in without removing the timing belt & the cam gear but I don't think you'll be able to very easily. It's much easier if you bite the bullet & pull the cam gear to get access to everything the normal way. If you're ceative you can zip tie the timing belt to the cam gears & just remove the intake cam gear without loosing your mechanical timing and taking everything off.

Guess I get to be the guy to revive an old thread here but I recently purchased a 7 bolt 4G63 (I am unsure of what year car it came out of). I am in the process of rebuilding it and discovered that I have the 2GB style CAS on the passenger side of the intake cam as well as the trigger plate cam gear and 2GA style cam sensor. I'm really confused as to why it has both and am wondering which direction I should go in. The engine is going into a 97 GS-T that will eventually have Link but not for a while. Thanks for any help!

If you still have the 97 engine wiring harness it's probably easiest to use the 2GB CAS setup.

I do. And that is the way I was leaning as well. After looking back at some info from when I purchased the engine, the car it came out of was a 1996 Spyder 2.4 that was converted to a 4G63T. I can only imagine that the engine was originally from a 2GB and they just left the CAS on there and put the 2GA setup on when it went into the 96. But thanks for the confirmation. It makes e feel better about doing it that way. LOL
