Hi everyone, this is my first post here and I can already gather that the 420a knowledge runs deep here.
I just recently got ut of the hospital and recovered from surgery. My 99 GS just had a new engine installed and had great working AC. Upon the first startup in over a month, I noticed a chattering noise. My power steering had been feeling a bit jerky, so I figured the pump was bad. The new engine was installed with all of my old auxiliary components as most were still good. I felt good enough to change the pump out last night with the help of a friend. The installation went smoothly, and I tension-ed the belt back and installed 2 new temp sensors while I had the clearing at the thermostat housing. I was experiencing a surging idle and was told that the temp sensors were probably the blame as I had already replaced the crank position sensor. The car started up and idled rough for about a minute, and then smoothed out. The steering felt great after adding fluid and bleeding it out. No more belt squeal when you hit lock like it did before. After letting the car get up to temp, the same squeak/squeal was back again and the AC no longer worked. The AC was just working before the replacement of the pump. No connections were unplugged or jarred loose, at least from what I could tell/feel. I checked the charge on the system, and it was fine. I also know that the same day and day before, the AC worked great. We've had a heat wave in MI and I used it a lot those two days. The squeak seemed to go away, but now it still squeaks when its revving down to idle. It goes away when it hits idle RPMs. It doesn't make the sound on acceleration either.

Has anyone here dealt with the AC just stopping like mine? Do either one of the temp sensors have anything to do with the AC working? I know both of my SAAB 9-3s have outside temp sensors that will not let the AC kick on unless the outside temp is above a certain degree. I know the description of the squeak/squeal is vague, but I can definitely tell that it is from the passenger side of the engine. I can't tell if its from the compressor, tensioner, alternator, etc. Its driving me nuts though. This is my last hurdle before I can consider the car finished.

Regarding the squeal, when the tensioner bearing is on its way out it can present that way. You can just replace the bearing and I don't remember it being that difficult. If the belt loosens at it heats up, that may allow enough slack for it to slip once the compressor engages.
Regarding the AC, there is a plug towards the end of the loom for the compressor. Check to make sure that is in good shape and making a secure connection. Unfortunately that's all the help I can offer.
