So my 95 eclipse GSX has had engine cutout on and off recently while on the road, and now it wont start at all. No spark, no fuel. My research suggests to check the Cam angle sensor (Cam), then the Crank Position sensor, then finally send the AEM engine management system (ems) back to be checked. I'm a little bit new to electrical diagnostics, and was wondering how to check the Cam sensor using the multimeter. Does anyone know how to run these tests? The only diagnostics tests I'm able to find are for the 97-99 Cam position sensor under the cam gear for later models.

I'd just turn the key on and spin the CAS sensor to see if the injectors click.

Otherwise once you find the signal wire, spin the sensor and look for fluctuating voltages as it spins.

Thanks for the help guys, I was able to find this forum post - https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/how-to-test-1g-cas.394020/

and followed goffers instructions. The CAS is pulsing like its supposed to when its rotating (4 pulses for the CAM) (2 pulses for the TDC wire). I didn't hear any fuel injector click during the test.

When I took the CAM sensor off it was held on by only one loose bolt, I suspect maybe it got mal-adjusted by the vibration of the engine, I'm going to test it when I get home tonight, although I don't think that's the issue.

Its probable that the AEM Engine management computer is fried, since I had the problem, the battery has inexplicably ran dead, the radiator fan relay has been buzzing, and the radiator fan will constantly turn when the key is turned to on.

Took the AEM EMS out and took it apart, everything looks okay in there, no burns or broken terminals. I have no idea where to look next. Checked the CAS, which doubles as a Crank position sensor and it appears fine, checked the CAS wiring harness, checked the EMS.

Any suggestions where to look next?

I took the plug out, connected it to the spark plug wire, touched it to a ground at night so I could see if there was a spark, had someone crank it over. No spark, but I wasn't satisfied with that, so I took a test light, grounded it to the battery, and touched the the probe inside the spark plug wire and cranked, no test light either. Working on isolating the parasitic power draw now, as it might be connected.

Researching power transistors now, thanks for the tip

update: car is using 12 volts while key is off. there must be a short somewhere - also, transistor has 7 pins, not sure if that's normal

Well, the car is running, I'm very confused as to why. I took every fuse and relay out I could find testing for the battery parasitic draw. Turned out it was a combination of the sunroof that doesn't open and the new gauge I just installed. Put everything together and now its running. puzzling since I didn't change anything.

The only thing I can think of is the alternator was drawing some current, but now it doesn't seem to be doing it anymore and the car is running. Might need to get a new alternator just to be on the safe side.
