I think there`s way to many sensors on our cars... I been tracing down the reason I have a fast Idle .. Replaced the Mass air flow sensor.. Throttle position sensor ..Manifold absolute pressure sensor .
Idle air control valve . There is no one in this town that works on Mitsubishi ( Even tho the Chrysler Dealership works on the Sebring and Dodge Stratus with the same engine ) they wont book my car in.
I may have to travel to Windsor or London Ontario which is a hundred mile away.. At 75 to 100 dollars an hour a man could become poor very quickly. I`m so stressed out over this . Wish there was some DSM guy`s in the neighborhood which I would gladly pay good money...

Fast idle is usually because of too much air getting past the throttle plate somewhere.
Incorrectly adjusted BISS, faulty FIAV, faulty ISC, leaky throttle bushings, vacuum leaks elsewhere etc...this is also what I've been chasing for a couple months.

Is it your 3g 3.0L eclipse? Have your alternator and battery checked. The ECU tells the motor to speed up if your volts drop on the battery too far. Just went through it last year with my 05 3.0. It ended up being a faulty alternator widgmaster.
 
Hey... That may be the ticket.. I had to replace my battery when I got it out of storage.. You might be onto some thing here.. It`s 5 in the morning so I will have to wait till daylight to test that out.
This would be a simple fix if that`s the problem... I wont get back to sleep now so come on sunshine.... LOL LOL LOL
 
Well I did the test suggested and no luck.. The battery came in at 12.9 and with it running it was 14.9 ...Dame.... I was hoping you where right Jeff.. Other then the fast idle the car runs like a top..

Can some one answer this question.
If I unplug the mass air flow sensor should the car stall .. Mine stays running and it idles at 1000rpm
 
Dang im sorry man.... Is there any any codes coming up? The MAF sensor may be acting up. The idle air valve could be sticking too. Other than that i guess if you have a home made smoker you could look for an air leak on the intake manifold or lines connecting to it.
 
I really appreciate your info Jeff.. Funny thing is there is no codes and the check engine light don`t come on either. I smoked the crap out of this thing with no vacuum leaks. Brand new MAF from Rock .

I thing your lock bolt is loose and you idle adjustment screw is backing out increasing the idle, hense no engine codes because the motor systems are fine that screw is out of whack.
