Hey guys! After a few long weeks. My car is finally running correctly. Otherwise I believe I have a 16g turbo housing with a 20g compressor. I can’t confirm it, but I believe it is. I’m just wondering how much WHP it is capable of. I am pushing around 20psi with 1200cc injectors, 255 walbro, and on 93 oct. I have searched a couple forms and threads. But everybody is maxing out their 16g.
I’m guessing 270whp is where the car will sit at. Either or, just want to hear results from a variety of people.

16g can be pushed to +400 if done right, a 20g comp might be a bit better but on average a good estimate would be around 350-370 for the masses on power most can get to quite easily

All this talk about what they should be at or what they could do is just bench racing. First off a 20g comp wheel stuff in a 16g housing isn’t gonna make much difference in power at 20psi. That wheel won’t shine until you start getting up higher in boost where the 16g wheel starts to fall.

What I can tell you is that an e316g car I’ve been tuning at roughly 3500’ elevation 24psi dropping to around 18psi at 7k made 325awhp right around the 7k mark. This is on crappy 91oct. It’s a very basic setup small cam, stock engine, tiny intercooler, but it works.

Ive seen 16g numbers all over the place. I’ve seen huge peak numbers and a crappy powerband all the way to cars with a long high avg hp number but a bit lower peak. Pump gas numbers range in the 270-340, the high sides really well setup. To race gas/E85 numbers well over the 400awhp mark.

We just finished up a 16g build. The only internal engine mods were mild cams (webb) on this car. With the stock intake manifold, 1000cc injectors, a free flowing exhaust and a evo III 16g we made over 340whp with close to 340ftlbs on pump 93. You should not have an issue making 300whp depending on your supporting mods. Here are the dyno results:

how you like the kelfords? i just bought them but havent installed..went with the low lifts to lower that aggressive idle

These are my first cams on any car I’ve had so can’t really give you a comparison but obviously keeps the power up top. I’ve had them on stock valve train for a year and a half and it has been fine. It’s recommended to use kiggly beehives. I just installed Manley singles yesterday (block is at machine shop now). Idled fine for me

I don’t plan to rev to the moon anytime soon. I do like them and you’ll feel a noticeable difference.

sick panda!

Kelford 264s on the 8800 rev limiter two nights ago, but MUCH diffeent turbo and internals. They will rev.

Kelfords really aren’t ideal for a bolt on style turbo. Way to much overlap which ends up robbing higher rpm horsepower. Need a cam with negative overlap to help in the higher rpms.

A good guestamate would be to take the airflow and multiply that by 10. This will give you approximate hp at the crank. Then subtract 25% for awd and 15% for Fwd.

Ya not even close for a guestamate. Our airflow was 35.5 at 7k and 325awhp. Your math would suggest 267awhp.

Hmm. Always thought airflow x 10 gave you crank hp. Guess that’s wrong then :ohdamn:

edit: do you not subtract lose through drive train?

I use less parasitic losses in my calculation; 10% for FWD & 15% for AWD should get you closer.

I use 20% drivetrain loss.

I don't trust lb/min much anymore. I tune some local cars. 1 logged 47lb/min and dyno'd 449whp, Another car is logging 51lb/min vs mine turned down to 51lb/min yet mine is substantially quicker. Granted his motor is 8:5:1 and I am 10:1 so i'm sure that throws off the lb/min guess.

My trap speed was 120 in the quarter at 51lbmin so I’m guessing it’s right above 400awhp. It would be 20% loss for me. From reading this thread, I’m convinced you can’t go by lb/min for whp numbers.

Ya it’s not a good way to gauge power. It is good tho to compare changes. Obviously more lbs/min, more power.

I just raced a 2015 Stage 1 gti. Lost by a car and a half. I’m just going to assume I’m pushing around 250whp. I’m satisfied with the gsx for now. I got him on the jump, and by the end of 3rd gear, the gti started creeping up haha. This is the fastest car I’ve driven
