so I did a new head gasket on my 92 eagle talon tsi. Got all the parts back together and got the motor re timed. I also did new injectors but they where the same size as the old ones so I figured I wouldn’t have to change the fueling map. All my timing marks line up and for some reason the car sputters at idle and I have to blip the throttle constantly to keep it running. Seems like it might be electrical but not sure what it could be. Car was running fine before I pulled the head. Any one have any ideas of what could be the issue.

They are new injectors from fic never been opened. Yes I am on ecmlink and no check engine lights or codes.

if they are used injectors then they could be clogged. Are you on ecmlink? Any engine codes?
No code when I just plugged it in but wideband is reading super lean. Sitting at 22 instead of 14.9 like the ecu is estimating.

When you decided to get the new head gasket did you get new gaskets for the TB elbow, TB to intake, and intake to block? Whenever I separate any joints such as those I always clean the surfaces, use some gasket seal goop on the new gaskets and let the gaskets fully cure for no less than 5 hours.

You could use a boost leak tester on the turbo mouth of your turbo and look for leaks that is how i found my injector seal leak. If one injector is seated wrong the others are probably not a whole lot better. I put a dab of electronic grease on the donut seal of the injector to not damage the seal and make sure its seated at the very bottom of the hole.

I’m working on getting a log for you guys to look at. I did use new gaskets on all the intake components. I have tried changing to a new wide band and still didn’t help.

I just did a boost leak test I’m pretty sure I can hear air leaking from intake manifold. Going to pull the manifold and put some gasket maker on it as well

I would say it’s your injectors. The same happened to me, I had old fic 950’s. After years of the car sitting, I took the injectors to be cleaned, but with all the ethanol in fuel these days, the fuel just ruined the injectors just sitting in there. So I bought new same exact injectors. Same issue you are having. I have a aem so I had to retune my fuel map, also the resistance from the old injectors and the new ones was enough to throw the old fuel map out of wack. Now the car runs great.

Be sure to have your throttle body gaskets oriented the right way.

I just did my head gasket, and ended up with a massive vacuum leak because I had a TB gasket oriented wrong. Flipped it and all is well.

here is a log of me trying to keep the car running then it it took itself to 2000rmp then died rigth away. i did a dew gasket on the intake and use permatex. im pretty sure its not a boost leak now
