I’m thinking about buying this 97 eclipse GS 5speed for $1500 tomorrow. The guy replaced the old engine that had 185k miles with a new one with 126k miles. he said It won’t stay in 5th gear, it will not stay idle unless you give it gas and it has a lack of power meaning when you accelerate you can’t floor it is what he told me
I questioned him able the idle issue I was curious on what if I’m at a stop light will it cut off. he said “It might cut off but I tested it and majority of the time it just goes really low in idle” I have some knowledge on 420a so I question again about the engine replacement he said the ECU wasn’t replaced or reprogrammed. So could the reason for the issues can be caused from not being reprogramed after the swap or something related to the ECU?

$1500 for a poorly running GS with trouble staying in gear is a big fat NO. $500... maybe..

Yea that's a hard pass. GSTs can go for that price in poor running condition. GSs aren't worth much IMHO..

Sounds like a bad MAP sensor. As for fifth gear the bushings on the shifter cables sound worn out keeping it from fully engaging fifth gear in my opinion. The others are more than right, he wants way too much money.

Thank you all, I was going to buy it for a Daily for work but now that I think about it i probably won’t buy it there’s no telling what’s wrong with it even after fixing one problem
