So by making a sarcastic joke, i ended up being gifted a keyless, titleless 2ga GSX manual in copper mica pearl. I haven't even gotten it home yet, but from what i can tell, other than a small part of a strut tower and some interior surface rust, it is rust free and the body is straight. It has sat for 11 years and no idea if it runs. Supposedly he "blew it up" and then parked it, but that could mean a lot of different things. From what i could recognize, it has a br 20g greddy intercooler piping, fpr, cast manifold with external wastegate, maf intake adapter, boost controller, injectors, and some exhaust that has stock tips but definitely isnt stock. Inside is modly, but all in tact including factory floor mats. No idea what i am going to do with it yet other than see what shape it is in and if it will run. I definitely needs some work, but could be a solid car with only 75k miles on the dash.

Suprisingly, the wife isn't mad about it, but i may have to sell my turbo Miata to keep it if i want to.

Tell me what i am missing in the pictures! Tell me what you think i should do first! I have a pretty good idea, but more ideas never hurt.

Wow that's pretty cool! Looks like a '95 or '96? Its a great candidate for a rebuild! Its not easy to find a GSX....probably has the eprom ECU too...good for dsmlink! Definitely a keeper! Do a leak down test on the motor first thing to see if its got a hole in a piston or some missing/bent valves...if compression checks out, put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder and see of it turns over without spark plugs...

BTW...what was the joke???

I was offered some other random stuff and politely declined and made a sarcastic comment "i thought you were calling to offer me his car" and I was told, do you want it? come get it....its some orange mitsubishi eclipse or something....so off I went.

Never heard of Copper Mica Pearl, but there is a Durango Copper that 2GA cars had. Look at the build date on the door label. If I remember right, only some "early 95" models had the EPROM. My GSXs build date is Sept 94, and has the EPROM & the larger vented rear brakes.

Since he "blew it up" don't engage the starter until you check for bent valves and if the crank can even be manually turned with a wrench (with spark plugs removed). And look at timing belt for damage.

Update:
Turns over by hand with no issues (once i took it out of gear *Facepalm*). Turbo spins freely, seems to have some play, but no marks on the compressor housing. Plugs look rich, tops of pistons look ok. Seems to be in time and timing belt isn't contaminated. Clutch doesn't want to come back up all the way, but may works itself back after use. Throttle cable is not stuck. Title is in process, and the key should be cut for me on Thursday.

I cleaned it up pretty well inside and out and used an ozone generator to get most of the smell out. Still need to get hatch open and it will need a full detail all over, but for now it doesn't look repulsive and won't kill me with mold.

OOO almost forgot, found this inside the car

Does this mean it was tuned at one point by Burschur? I believe these are settings for the SAFC (cutting edge in 2000)

I’d kill for grey leather seats in that condition.. mine are beat up and the seams keep splitting... AND the leather wrapped shift knob?? I’m so jealous right now...
Lol. it even still has the bolt in clip and the plastic guides for the spark plug wires under an intact plastic spark plug cover. These are things i've never seen on a DSM.

Proof!

You are missing one wire keeper, it supposed to be 3, by the way really nice car overall.
Ahh, I see that now.
Looks like an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator too...a nice little mod

Diaphragms are available for that fpr. Great catch. Who owned the car? Some old school folks might know him.
Yes, i will have to see if that AFPR is rotted or not.
A guy named Dave owned it. License plate was PURECHI. Not sure if he was ever on here or not.

Lastly, what's the best way to get the old fuel out?

Put a hose on the fuel return and activate the fuel pump and pump it into a container. Seriously doubt your fuel pump is good. Last time I did this the pump was shorted to ground. Replaced the pump and then pumped out all the old fuel.

yeah, i figure it is probably trash.

At the moment, i got a battery in it, but the only thing that does anything is the lights when you open the door on the dash and in the car. everything else is dead dead. Not even door locks work.

Cleaned terminals, body ground, and engine ground and i now have headlights and door locks, basically everything that the car should have with no key, save the lights on buzzer. Where do I look now?

Update: Ignition switch wasn't testing as good. Jumpered the accessory and key on positions and everything started working...sort of. I thnk i have corrosion in alot of switches. Most things worked though. Anyone know where to get factory head unit unlock codes?

Update:
Mitsubishi has an awesome system for getting your radio unlock codes. Took me longer to pull the center console to get to the radio than it did for Mitsu to email me my code back, And that is saying quite a bit because i can tear out that center console in about 3 mins.

Ignition switch needed the contacts cleaned. Once i did that, i found out starter was seized. replaced the starter, filled with good oil, put a cap of atf in each cylinder, pulled the plugs and disconnected fuel pump. She turns over like a champ. Everything sounds ok.

Right now I am waiting on a fuel pump since the old one is seized and it is near impossible to get a walhboro 255 hp right now for some reason (old pump was some denson cosmo 20B relic so a 255 hp should match the flow pretty well).

All right, I officially own the car!

Fuel pump is in and I tried starting it, but no go. I think the fuel is just too old. I siphoned out as much as i could, (4 gallons) by opening up both sides of the saddle and pumping it out with a hand pump.

Should be able to get fresh gas in it tonight and give it a go!
