I’m new to the platform and was curious if there’s a way to two step a 97 420a rs. Or would finding a performance chip help set a rev limit? Kinda just want to be able to bounce off rev limiter but don’t know what exactly to get or if there’s a way
 
The 420a ECU is not tunable. So you can't add a launch control rev limit. You would need to use an aftermarket ECU to get this feature. At a minimum, you could use an ignition controller like the MSD DIS 2. You can set a lower rev limit with this box, but it's only an ignition cut. This is less then ideal but it would get the job done.
 
ohhh okay that makes sense bro, I really appreciate it . It makes a lot of sense to have an ignition cut instead of risking a fuel cut and damaging the motor
 
Ik this is off topic but I’m having issues with my 96 eclipse GS. I have a misfire #4 & intake manifold gasket leak. When I start the car my car sounds like a RX7 along with that I can’t drive to fast or it will smoke a little. For the misfire I changed out everything besides the injectors & it didn’t fix but I searched non stop about the issue and it’s saying Basically the intake manifold gasket is the issue since I have all symptoms for the high rev & RX7 idle. Idk if anyone had this issue but if I replace the gasket will the problem fix everything?

To answer your question. No one here can tell you if changing intake manifold gaskets will fix your problem or not. If you suspect they are leaking, I would try to determine if they are in fact leaking before I change them out. You can spray some carb cleaner, or brake cleaner around the suspected leak area. If there is a leak, the car will idle up.
 
I have a 96 gs and I found the answer to the rev limiter problem for the 420a model eclipses I have one installed and its under $150 its called the omex clubman. The specific one your going to be looking for is the twin coil model. Our cars having the coil pack setup it does makes things a little tricky and a little sketchy. I put in the time tried cheap limiters with no luck at all i have a thread where I tried the eBay "power builder" rev limiter its a massive headache. Mainly cause in our cars it fires cylinders 1 and 4 together and 2 and 3 together. So we dont have 4 individual coils they are paired together and there isnt a ignition control module its straight from the ecu to the coil pack. The instructions for the clubman are simple and easy to understand it comes with a launch control button and you can set your rev limiter where you want and a launch control rpm as well as being able to choose between hard and soft cuts its worth the money. Just know this with the way our coil packs are on paper for the clubman you have to set your motor to a 2 cylinder motor due to 2 cylinders firing in sequence this info is in the manual but its important to know.
