So the other day I pulled my 1997 eagle talon esi out of the garage for the first time. (I bought it as an engine rebuild project, I haven't driven it before) It is a manual transmission. I go to shift into reverse and the transmission does not shift. My buddy opens the hood, and while I have the shifter in the reverse position and the clutch in, he pulls linkage and it pops into reverse and stays there until I shift out of it.
Upon further investigation when we got it back into the garage, we noticed it was an extremely short throw to 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear (push it an inch maybe inch and a half and its in gear) and a much longer throw (3+ inches) to get to 2nd, 4th or reverse.
Upon FURTHER investigation, the shift cable had broken.
Does anyone know where I could get a shift cable? Local NAPA doesn't carry it and I can't find it on Rock Auto.
Has anyone had luck replacing it? Do you have any tips or tricks?
Thank you!
