Hi my friend just got me into DSMs and I got a 91 Plymouth laser RS. I got a guys selling (locally) a brand new TD04-2 turbo for a Delica and wanted to know if it would work with my 1G. Whether it's the same or a small upgrade. I'm just getting into these engines so I dont know much about their turbos what's better or worse.

U mean from a celica alltrac :nono:
I think he meant a Mitsubishi Delica star wagon or one of Delica family. In Japan, it was a popular RWD/AWD Van in the late 80s and 90s. Came with diesel turbo with a TD04, also g63b or 6/7 bolt 4g64. It's a fun car! I like it :)

What's wrong with the 14b anyways?

If he has an automatic transmission, he doesn't have a 14B. The stock turbo on his DSM would be a td04 13G instead.

The Delica turbo is a waste. The 13G is too, they can support about 225whp max.

4D56 Delicas came with a TD04 11G, which has a 38mm/49mm compressor. This is smaller than any MHI turbo ever offered on a 4G63, so it would be a noticeable downgrade.

Also do a lot more research on these forums about upgrade paths. Dont just go throwing a bigger turbo on there. What's wrong with the 14b anyways? They are great turbos and will support you until you do other beneficial mods.
It's got around 250000km on it and it's been sitting in a bush since 2007

The car itself has that many miles and has bene sitting in a bush as well?
I'm planning to repaint the car, clear coat is peeling but there isn't a spec of rust on the body at all. Me and a friend got 2 cars from a grave yard at the same time it was a package deal but we needed the block from the second one and it was in more pieces so i have parts for everything besides the engine.

Not knocking it LOL, just seems odd that a torbo upgrade is the first thing you look to do on a car that's been sitting for years? :idontknow:
I was just browsing the marketplace as I do and it was there for $125.

Hi i was wanting to know in regards to my 1999 eclipse GST if a 14B would be better then a 16G currently have the stock T25. Was told the difference but wanting others opinions

Either is better than the T25. There are 3 versions of the 16G compressor wheel that are commonly used on DSMs, they were the wheels that came on the first 3 generations of the Evolution. The 14B will spool about the same as an Evo 1 "small" 16G, but can't flow as much air as the small 16G. The 14B flows a lot less air than the biggest, which is the Evo 3 16G. The bigger issue for you would be finding a genuine MHI 16G turbo with all the counterfeit chinabay crap out there. About as hard as finding a 14B without a cracked 6cm turbine housing.

I mean I cant find them brand new? And what do u recommend for 380 to 400hp

For 400whp you're going to want a bigger compressor. An 18G or FP 68HTA with a TD05H turbine would be the smallest I'd recommended for that power level. Anything with a bigger compressor than those will need more turbine to really shine though. A bastard 20G isn't a terrible choice, but the compressor is capable of quite a bit more than the turbine can flow, and the 18G/68HTA is much more responsive than any TD06 turbo.

OKay noted, second question engine kinda jerks almost like an idle surge at around 2500 rpm and held at 45 to 50MP any ideas what that can be?

You CAN achieve your power goal on a 14b but it take a lot to get there. Easier way would be what Zack said. Also take into consideration what fuel you’ll be using. If ethanol is available where you live, it’s a great power adder.

ps try not to crowd the thread with off topic questions. Instead do some research or start another thread. It sounds like you have idle serge.
