Hello fellow dsm addicts!

So I am planning on putting on a side mount exhaust on my 1997 eclipse gs-t. Now I know this will not improve hp or anything major, but I have the parts to do one for free and I don't mind it being loud :)
My question is, can I just run one o2 censor that threads into the o2 housing that bolts onto the turbo? Will the car run properly only off one 02 censor? If not, how do I fix that or do I have to go buy a full exhuast system?

In a 2g your front 02 is your narrowband sensor. The rear 02 is not needed. Now you can do this a couple different ways.

Keep your stock narrowband in it's location and just run with one sensor. Will throw a cel if you don't have dsmlink.

If you have dsmlink you can ditch your factory narrowband gauge and simulate your wideband in dsmlink as your narrowband. So no additional bung needed to be welded to the side exit. Or just use both the factory narrowband and a wideband.

In all my side exit exhaust I have made I have always kept the factory narrowband and welded an additional bung on for the uses of a wideband as a secondary sensor.

I do not have a dsmlink. If I run just the stock narrow band o2 sensor will that damage anything over a long period of time? I don't mind dealing with a code being thrown.
 
John... I hate to sound negative since this forum is far from negative, but I feel like you are jumping into something that is not a good idea at this time. Running a side exit exhaust when you don't have at least dsmlink does not make much sense... You are going to want to run your factory o2 sensor especially when using the stock ECU. I would absolutely do some more research on this topic before you start going side exit. Most likely you are going to run into fitment issues with the oil filter as well, I know I did when I converted to a side exit setup (there is a full write up of my exhaust setup on the build forums). Again, I would not do this at this stage of the game. I know if I saw a DSM running a side exit on a 16g car stock ecu I would not think highly of it. Just my two cents
 
If you're going from a stock exhaust, boost creep could become an issue for you as well. It's pretty common with a 16g at lower boost and a high flowing exhaust. Your mod list is not very detailed as far as your supporting mods go.
 
I run a side exit exhaust granted my car isn’t a daily. But definitely sees the streets. I don’t regret it not one bit. That being said make sure you do things the right way and not skipping anything. DSMLINK is highly recommended when your beginning to mod your car. Definitely a investment you won’t regret.
