Hey everyone! I’m in the process of prepping the swap from my 92 tsi fwd to my 91 tsi awd. This is my first time doing something like this and I have yet to ever pull a 4g63 but I have pulled other motors in the past. Anyway I just wanted to upload a few pictures of the awd engine bay and see if anyone can see things I should replace before starting the swap. I plan on cleaning everything up before the install also. I am a bit of a noob with something’s but I learn fast. Also I bought the shell in this condition and haven’t touched anything. Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Well given you have everything easily accessible, I would replace the brake master cylinder, all hoses going to the firewall, fuel filter, and any lines that looked aged or damaged. Also give it a nice clean up, scrub, degrease, and paint the battery carrier, if you want to go the extra mile, you can strip everything out and paint the engine bay, which I would highly recommend given the motor/trans are out.

Be aware it's a lot bigger job on a 1g than it is on a 2g. The unibody itself is not quite the same in the rear.

Think he’s just swapping parts from a Fwd to awd chassis.

Correct. I'm swapping my engine from my 93 fwd to my 91 awd. Fwd is complete and running atm, Awd has no motor or trans.

So all youre doing is motor swapping? Going to put the fwd trans in the awd chassis? Or get an awd trans?

If this car will have ac put all the stuff back now before the motor is in

The car came with a motor and trans out of the car, but not much info was given. The guy I bought it from got it from another guy and I guess he didn't know much either. I suspect the the first guy that had it (who pulled the motor/trans) ran into some kind of problem and lost interest. So my plan was to use the trans that came with it but I guess I'll have to get it looked at first. The drive shaft and tcase are still attached to the car tho. I also have the front axles. The guy I got it from gave me a heap load of extra stuff. The engine in my fwd already has some stuff done to it so I decided I would just swap it over vs messing with a torn apart block I know nothing about.

You will need some specific awd parts. Starter plate. Starter. Flywheel. Awd trans is potentially year specific but likely matches your chasis.
