Anyone have good photos of some of the DSM legend cars at the track? Looking for some photos of Shep, Glazar, Rau, Buschur and others. Some launching photos would be great, staging lanes, etc. Trying to come up with some ideas for a project. I searched Google and found some - I'm looking for photos that aren't already in Google Images, meaning, please don't go do a search and share what you find. I'm looking for photos people have saved.

Thanks!

I do... however they are packed away......I'm guessing about a month until I unpack. The oldest pics I have are from the E.I.P. shootout at MIR July 4th weekend, 1996. That was the first Import Drag Race event on the east coast and also the weekend I knew I was actually going to drop Volkswagen cars after a decade, and get into DSMs.

Oh I hope I still have these. Not sure if the tornado got them but I was the photographer for turbo magazine at the 96 shootout. I have all the photos on slide format. Not sure how I would digitize these but I need to. Many of them have never been seen but if anybody has that old magazine I took many of the photos.

Easiest way is to take photos of them but you have to do it at a very straight on angle so they don't look skewed. A scanner would be best, but I'm not looking to print these out or anything. I just wanted to see what photos people had.

Not sure you understand. I'm talking 35mm slides. Like old school slide projector slides. View master style LOL. I'm not even sure I have them. Need to dig around some boxes. Definitely dsm history. I got a bunch of launch shots I'm sure. Dudes at turbo didnt even give me a byline. I'm listed as MDSOG staff. All they had to do was make a phone call to get my name. Other shots were from Marc Hallmans dad.

Oh hell... ignore that last reply. Isn't there an app for that? LOL

Do you know which edition it was? My father has tons of Turbo magazines in excellent shape. I'll go find it and scan the images in.

I have a video of Shep's Talon last time it was racing at the Shootout. I don't know if you can grab a frame for what you're doing or not. Here's the link:

There's also an old video of Boostin when I think he was still on 35r. Not the best quality I know, but it's all I have I think.

EDIT: here's an old photo I had, from where I have no idea.

It had to be summer of 96 back then if I recall the shootout was always memorial day weekend. I would still have a ton of pictures that never made the magazine.

From October 1996 Turbo magazine.

The yellow 1g in your pics was Adrian Milanos car from cincy. He sold it to another cincidsmer back in 2002 whom owned until 2-3 years ago then sold it to some guy in cincy and it has been completely ruined, it is trashed, it was a nice car, another DSM down the drain. Adrian was the original owner in 90 and painted it hyper yellow within 6 months of buying it WAS a real nice car up until a few years ago, sad face.

These were the last pics of it before it was ruined, I tried to buy it but the owner wouldn't meet my price, I told him if he sold it to anybody but me it would be destroyed........and I was right.

Looks like a Thermal R&D catback... but I could be wrong. That was my favorite exhaust for these cars.

It does suck to see good cars get destroyed.

From October 1996 Turbo magazine.
Thats the article. MDSOG staff....thanks Mike...jeez. i don't know which ones without looking but I'm sure I took some of those photos. Tuebo magazine's Mike
Ferrara could not go because they were covering another event and the shootout was a little event at the time. 88 cars if I recall total attendance. I was sponsored through Alamo autosports San Antonio and Ray parks to shoot the event. Ray and I drove up and Turbo magazine picked up the bill. My first shootout. Good times

From October 1996 Turbo magazine.
I found a box of slides but sadly they were not the ones I wanted. They were from the same trip. I can only guess the tornado took the other boxes and this one survived.
If I come across them I'll post them but if I found this one there was no reason to think the other boxes would've been elsewhere.

Some more excerpts from Turbo magazine,1996-1999.

Last one is my favorite. Daryl Hudson.

Reach out to Phil Beers on DSM Nation on Facebook. I’m sure you know the guy. He is like a DSM historian... LOL. I got all but the last picture from him.
