Hello everyone I figured I'd post this here instead of Facebook. I've been thinking of what would be a great upgrade that in cheaper in the long run and more abundant in parts. But here is my throttle body swap on a 1g intake manifold.
Tools I used
MUST HAVE ECMLINK OR OTHER TUNING ECU
Cordless drill or corded
A coned deburing bit
A 21/64 drill bit
Ratchet and socket set
box knife with a sharp blade
A machinist file
Wire stripers
Wire crimped
Wire cutter
Lighter or heat gun
Sharpie
Supplies needed
Jb weld
4- M8x1.25x 1" alen bolts
Grey RTV
Tape any kind that sticks to aluminum
Cleaner/ degreaser/carb cleaner/brake cleaner
Heat shrink tube connectors/ solder and heat shrink your choice
Reasons I did the swap
Cheaper tps
More abundant at scrap yards if one breaks
No boost leaks
Slight bigger than stock at 65mm vs the 60mm dsm throttle body.
And easier to adjust the idle.
No more replacing the IAC valve
Can also do a remote IAC if you choose to. That's also on here.
Ok now for the fun part. Modifying the mustang throttle body.
First things first. The stock dsm throttle cable has a metal cylinder on the end of it and this is where the drill bit comes into play. You have to drill out where this goes because the ford cable cylinder is smaller than the dsm cable. Once that's done the dsm cable fits like a charm but be slow because it's just plastic. I should have taken a picture of that part but it's simple enough. Once that's done move to the next step.
Next step clean the throttle body from any and all oils for the tape to stick and then you have to mix the JB weld to fill in the stock un used IAC prevision on the mustang throttle body because the factory dsm gasket wont cover it nor will the intake manifold. So after that's done let sit and cure. I used the normal JB weld but could have used the quick cure. Put some tape on the inside of the throttle body where the provision is so the JB weld wont run out of it. After the JB weld cures remove the tape from the throttle body and shape it to the bore of the throttle body bore and then using the machinist file flatten the mound of JB weld. Once that's done your onto the next step. Wiring up the ford TPS. I hate wiring but this was easy. In the pictures just connect the wires together as in the picture and your done. Simple as that. Now that that's done you can remove the intake manifold to port match the throttle body or not. I haven't done it yet because I'm saving that for a later time. Dont have to but to get the most out of the extra 5mm you can.
Once you get the throttle body ready to eliminate further issues when installing it. You must elongate the bolt holes for it to fit the 1g intake manifold. I simply used the stock dsm throttle body gasket and a sharpie and marked where the dsm throttle body bolts will go. then using the deburing bit and drill start to elongate the holes while test fitting it to your manifold. It's a work out for sure but well worth it. Then once it fits your intake manifold your ready to bolt it on and adjust your tps.
Once your ready to adjust your TPS using ECMLINK turn the key on engine not running start a log with gas pedal closed hit the gas pedal and hold it for 3 seconds stop the log. Then right click on the log scroll down to adjust tps click that and save the correction that ECMLINK made for you and your done.
And enjoy the shorter throttle feel and a great smooth idle. Idle may need adjusted but that's a given considering it's a mustang throttle body.
