Its not an issue as such but when they pull you sideways this might cut into the bumper cover/fog cover, so that and make sure its strength on sideways motion also on as it might twist when they pull sideways.

Is the bumper mounts removeable? It might be something to consider for those not needing them and can unbolt it and inplace bolt in a bumper cover bracket to hold it up and not droop under the light. Just an option as an add on

The fog light hole clearance is pretty decent so sideways motion should be OK, as long as it's not very extreme. Although not shown on the model, I'll probably weld in some little stops on the bottom to prevent the tow strap's bracket from being able to rotate on the bolt.

I planned to weld the bumper mounts on since I have no plans to remove the crash bumper, but not a bad idea to make them removable.

Its a nice design. Box is what i went with and it will take alot just dont do what i nearly did and go m14 bokts LOL, no wiggle room, i did go m12 in the end for more strength and tow straps ask for a minimum of m12 so it does offer a smidge less side movement but its stronger for the mounting even on the chassis rails.

Good work here

Thanks! All the bolts shown (on the tow hook and the chassis mount) are 1/2" flanged. It's definitely a tight fit, but they fit.

If you plan to sell them then i would make them mounts removeable so you or they can make a bracket that bolts in place for the bumper cover. Its just thinking about making it easier for the customer really.

1/2" is tighter but you see what i ment by wiggle room being limited LOL, weird thing is my white chassis was different then my red chassis! Not sure why but it was about 4mm off, i think thats ehy they use M10 as it gives slot more movement for them being sloppy with fitment holez

I always think about selling stuff like this but I've rarely gone through with it. I no longer have access to a machine shop since I changed jobs, so I'm not really setup to mass produce these. I'll be doing the best I can with my angle grinder, Dremel, and drill :) Plus, I'm not sure the demand is even there.

Although, I did pick up an HTP 221 TIG welder so that will be instrumental to this project!

Our testing of the prototype mount with the trailer winch went well enough, so we started fabrication on the real ones. The prototype is almost the same as the real ones, except it doesn't have the gusset since I wanted to test without it for worst-case scenario. With the brakes fully on, it actually started moving the truck/trailer back towards the car.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I thought i did till i checked back.

I read your initial post as your going to offer them so thats why i mentioned it.
Your test one looks good and strong. If your not going to gusset the inner angle of the two tubes maybe weld a cover over the outside of the welds to stop them from ripping apart as a precaution more then anything. But it looks like it works really well. Now you just got to keep an eye on the chassis mounting holes so they dont start to deform and lift up with the force being offset.

Nice work team Loose

The final mounts are complete and the test fit was successful. We're just waiting on some decent weather to paint them, the rest of the tow straps, and a friend to machine spacers to put in the front frame holes to minimize distortion. I'll post more pictures once they're all finished

Our friend made one frame rail spacer but it was too difficult for him to make all four, so we outsourced them with a few tweaks from the original design. But other than that, they're done and installed!

I also welded the fog light cover screw to a thumb screw like I use on the rest of my bumper so it can be removed without tools. This will make it a little easier to get the tow hook through the hole when installing the bumper or allow me to tuck the tow straps in if I don't want them sticking out. They're too stiff to be tucked back into the hole otherwise.

And the spacers are in. This should help keep the metal that the mounts bolt to from stressing and pulling away from the bottom of the frame rail, which we see some evidence of in the video testing. It will also prevent the mounts from moving forward when pulled on since the spacers will dig into the hole in the frame rail.

AAA won't tow my car because the intercooler in in the way but I've had some guys hook it to the side of the intercooler. Does anyone know a good way to hook up the car in the front to put it on flatbed? I was thinking about a tow hook but i only need it put on flatbed 1 time so I don't wanna waste money. I just think its ridiculous that some AAA guys hook my car uo no problem and some want me to sign a wavier

To be fair, it’s a DSM, so thinking it’s only gonna go on a flatbed once isn’t actually in the realm of reality. Best bet is to look at the options in this post and figure which one works best for you.

They should be hooking on the lower control arms so I would be glad the guy that was worried about the intercooler being in the way didn't tow it. Who knows where he was trying to hook onto it.

I was going to say the same thing as @97egl
Hook onto the LCA. That is where I latched onto my son's 95 when he toasted the motor at the track, to winch it onto the trailer. No damage to anything (other than that cylinder wall .......coated in aluminum).

We made a small update on the front tow hook - added wings to the sides near the tow strap bracket and then a bolt on the unused hole for each. This will keep the tow hook from rotating when pulled. Brian had his tow strap used a couple years back and it moved just a little bit, but we figured we'd just prevent that.

And we also made rear tow hooks for the cars. The design is similar but the tow strap bracket mounts over a 1/2" bushing that purposely allows it to rotate on a Viton gasket. Since the rear is a lot more open than the front, we thought this would help provide the best towing angles on the strap if it couldn't be pulled straight on. The gasket makes it difficult to move so it should stay put during normal driving, but will rotate on its own when needed. (I forgot to take better assembly pictures after powdercoating, that's why some are raw metal.)

hopefully I'm not the only one, but if one of our Freelancers took this on I feel like it would be super successful.
Could easily count me in for an order!

I did make one spare tow hook that already sold and I've had a few other people express interest in them so I'll see about offering them for sale.

I need a measurement for 2ga/b Talon bumpers to see if they're the same as Eclipses. Can someone please measure from the inside of the frame rail straight down to the bottom-most part of the rear bumper there? It's a little goofy of a measurement, but you should be able to hang a small measuring tape from the rail as shown with everything installed, then eyeball it. For reference, 2ga Eclipse is 5 1/2" and 2gb is 6 3/8" so I expect the Talons will be the same as one of those.

Edit for future reference: 2gb talon appears to be 5"
