Couple months ago my starter died. It made no noise at all. I pulled it out and one wire to carbon brush was broken so I replaced it. After a month the same issue appeared. I drove to a shop (it started perfectly on my way to shop) and when i wanted to go back it again made no noise at all. I was fed up and didnt wanted to fix it myself so just push started it and drove to mechanics. Now couple weeks later same shit happened. It just clicks when you turn the key and nothing happens. Any ideas what could be causing this problem? I have no interest in fixing starter every 2 weeks.. Also I should point out that first time it happened it didn't happen suddenly like recent 2 times. For couple weeks the starter made clicking sounds but after couple seconds it would turn over. Now its sudden and no sound at all

Check the connections for the main power feed wire and make sure the main ground wire is attached to the starter bolt. Ensure both are corrosion free and have bare metal connections to their respective areas. Issue you're having sounds like poor grounding to me.

Thanks for fast responses guys will check wiring tomorrow. Also I wanted to ask if what I did could have anything with this issue. On the firewall just behind the battery there is a hole for all the wiring to go. When I installed sub I put pretty beefy wire and I ran it together through that hole, but because the wire was fat I had to remove rubber around that hole and just left that white plastic thingy. This seems far reach but have to ask

Is it manual? If so, something you might want to check before you trace wires is to make sure the clutch pedal switch is fully depressed. There’s a rubber grommet that’s on the pedal between the switch and the pedal assembly. When that switch isn’t fully depressed, the relay inside clicks as well. But if you’re 100% it’s the starter that’s clicking, then you don’t have to check this.

If it’s auto, check the neutral safety switch. Idk where that is but I’m sure you’ll be able to do a quick search.

Btw, you’re hearing one click and not several clicks?

If there's a way to push start an automatic, I'd like to know the trick. It could be handy in the future.

The other points were great.

Just a single click. Couldn't check wires it started snowing yesterday :(

The weirdest thing was that - wire wasnt connected anywhere. I cant explain that

Finally got that little metal connector for the wire. Im pretty sure but just gonna ask because - wasnt conected anywhere - can you ground the starter to the same 1 of 2 bolts that holds the starter?

You SHOULD ground it to one of the starter bolts so it has a very good connection on the ground side. That is the proper place for 1 of the grounds.
