Hey guys.. I just recently fixed some electrical issues with my gsx, only to be welcomed with the amazing sound of something knocking / ticking in the engine!

Just when I thought everything was perfect... LOL. Just kidding, I'm glad to be apart of the DSM World!

I'm really hoping this sound is just lifters, but I'd like to get some additional opinions before i go ordering some revised 3G lifters.

- Here's link to the aforementioned noise.

Sounds like lifter tick to me, but it almost sounds like there's spark arc happening. Hard to tell with the audio, could just be my phone speaker. But you could check the lifters to see if some have lost their "pump".

3g lifters really can't hurt anything, I have several sets on hand just in case.

Appreciate the quick reply @ThunderChild

I'm not sure what you mean by spark arc .. (i've got new plugs, wires, and coils) but yeah as the 3g lifters can't really hurt anything you're right I might as well just order a set. :thumb:

Was just curious to see if anyone thought it sounded any worse than lifter tick ..

Thanks. I’ve seen some people on YouTube mention this “Engine Restorer”, but I’ve always been a little skeptical of engine additives .. I may temporarily try that for the time being, but as the permanent solution is only about $140, including a new valve cover gasket I’ll likely go that route soon

I'm sure you got your answer already, my video sounded similar to your video, I decided id try deep cleaning mine first and seeing if that would help. I update my profile constantly so hopefully next week ill have the timing belt installed and the cleaned lifters back in and I can give you personal experience on if cleaning them helped.

I cleaned out my 1990 GSX lifters when I did its timing belt and cams. Let me tell you, the bleed hole is super small. I had to grind down a paper clip to make it fit in the top to "bleed" those and the day after I installed everything, I found an extra set of 3g's and could have used them. After cleaning though, the 1990 lifters quited down a lot.

Ya I cleaned mine too but after a while it just comes back. If the revised 3g style lifters are now that cheap ($99 for 16 Topline ones in post #8) it sounds like the way to go.

Spyderdrifter: Have you have any problems or issues with them? That price sounds too good to be true.

Fwiw, I've used a few sets of the cheap eBay 3g lifters as well as top line lifters with zero issues up to now. Have toplines in my red 92 talon and two freinds cars, and the chebay ones in my 90 laser and another freinds car. I have I think 6 sets of 3g lifters total in spares to go in the cylinder heads I've been slowly rebuilding.

But basically I haven't had any issues at all with them, they've been great.

Appreciate all the feedback guys. Looks like I'll have some fun bleeding these and cleaning out the rockers. I just ordered a new set of ITM 3g lifters and a new fel-pro valve gasket from eBay for less than 140 for both, should be here by the end of the week. Fingers crossed everything goes as smoothly as expected, I'll update the post when everything is finished!
