I need some advice on removing the front CV shafts so I can finally pull my engine and transmission.

I have the drivers side and passenger side outer side of the CV shafts removed from the hub. The driver side looks like it goes through a carrier bearing of some sorts, and I was just wondering if there were any ideas on how to get them to come out. I have seen where a guy just tugs on the shaft and it will come loose but that doesn't seem to be working for me and just stretches the inner boot. Do I have to remove the clamps around the boot first? Any advice is appreciated and if you have a hard time figuring out what I'm talking about I will post a picture in a little bit.

You shouldn't have to go through all this, but the way I do it is to drop the upper a-arm, unbolt the shock mount fork from the lower control arm and unbolt the tie rod. The whole assembly is loose then, so you should be able to move the knuckle out of the way. Unbolt the two bolts that hold the carrier bearing to the block and the whole thing should slide right out.

For the passengers side, do the same thing, sans the carrier bearing removal, unclip the cv boot and the axle will slide out.

Hope this helps man.

Thanks for the quick responses. I'll go back outside and give it a shot. Sorry for not finding it on my own, I did try the search but my words may not have picked up those threads.

Prybar helps getting out the passenger side axle. The driver's side should be cake once the carrier bearing is unbolted from the block.

Bringing this one back from the dead. Would love any help at all. I have everything unbolted and ready to pull apart, I just cant get the LCA to separate. 22mm bolt is loose I have tried tapping with the hammer, tried a floor jack, tried a prybar. I cant get it separate on either side. Anyone had this problem before and any pointers? I cant figure it out for the life of me. Thanks guys!

You're having troubles with the lower control arms? Normally I just remove the side bolted to the subframe and wish bone instead of the part connected to the knuckle. It's always been easier for me that way. Also unbolting the 2 bolts holding the curved LCA to the chassis as well. This way I avoid any torn boots :)

Hey thanks for the reply! Good idea, I have manageable clearance from the boots even though it’s still pretty tight space. I’m going to get a bigger, stronger pry bar tonight and see if that helps with separating the LCA since I have everything loose and apart. If that doesn’t work I’ll definitely give your way a shot! Thanks again!

Pulling tranny to replace a TOB. Also fixing (hopefully) the oil pan leak. I was going off of Jafros tranny removal vids. I’ll check that link when I get home. Thanks so much!!

Yes, follow the direction in @luv2rallye reply. You're working too hard if doing it differently.
