Recently my 3rd gear has been acting up. It has always been sort of "crunchy" especially when shifting hard from second to 3rd at high rps and boost. The other day i did a pull in second then shifted into 3rd and thought all was good until i got back on the gas and the engine just revved as if i was in neutral. The problem went away but the past few days it has been on and off. Some times it shifts fine into 3rd without issue, but usually if i drive it hard it will go into 3rd and then do the same revving thing like its in neutral. I can get it to engage fully with some fiddling around with the shifter but it seems to be getting worse. Today it happened again but this time both 3rd and 4th wouldn't engage, i had to put it into 5th to make it home till i parked it then started and tried again and all gears were working fine. Its weird because the clutch seems fine and the shifter still feels and looks like its going into gear but then when i let off the clutch, nothing. Can anyone point me in the right direction? thank youuu

Sounds like it could be a shift fork issue. Things to check to rule out would be shift cables, clutch master and slave cylinder. Does the car go into gear with the engine off? Maybe try to shift third and forth with your hands on the trans.

recently replaced the slave cylinder so i know thats good. The car will go into gear with the engine off yes. I did visually inspect the shift cables, i tried moving the shifter thing under the hood with my hand and it seemed to click into gear properly and firmly. I dont really know what to look for tho. When i was looking i did notice that there was lots of play in the shifter bushings, especially on the one that engages 3rd. I also had my buddy shift in and out of third while i watched the linkage, it seemed to move properly but again, i dont really know what to look for. How can i make sure the shift cables are doing there job properly?

Since its going into gear with the engine off that leads me to think your pedal might be out of adjustment. Where does the pedal grab? It might need to be adjusted.

If the cables move it the same as by hand you have an internal problem. Rule out the cables and bracket first. Internal problems could be worn/broken shift fork or rail. Could also have worn hub and sleeve or bearing issues. You wont know until its torn down.
