So I picked up the 1997 GSX today about 2 hours ago. I will go through tomorrow and do a thorough build update and take more pictures.

Really happy to be back into the DSM game. A few things I need to solve is the check engline will come on flash a few times then go away when cruising at 60 MPH, previous owner said it's due to the o2 sensor reading weird with the 3.5" exhaust. I also need to fix the stock oil pressure gauge it no longer shows any readings(Sensor possibly), and lastly I need a new o2 sensor for the wideband gauge.

I think the last owner was full of sh!t if he believed your CEL was from the O2 being weird with the exhaust. I myself (and many, many others) have had that size exhaust, and I never had an O2 problem from it causing the CEL to randomly flash. I'd bet on a different cause. It probably wouldn't hurt to check your O2 sensors anyway, just to be sure.

Yeah same here, my old 91 GST had a 3" downpipe only and it never had that issue. The light comes on for 3-5 seconds it will flash then go off, only cruising around 60mph on the interstate. Driving through town it doesn't pop up.

Odd. Almost seems like it's supposed to be on for another reason, but there's a possible shorting issue to the bulb? I'd scan the car to see if there's any codes present and pull the cluster out to check the bulb.

Easy enough to pull the code and start narrowing down the issues.

Welcome back!
Thank you!

As to the codes I have a blue tooth reader Lemur - Model LSB2 so maybe that will work to read the codes.

Also any suggestions on putting a rear car seat in the car LOL? I can't seem to find the mounts to secure it down with?

You'll probably have to use the shoulder/lap belt with one of those metal clips that come with the car seats. I don't know when they started putting mounting anchors/tabs in cars for car seats, but it might have been after the DSM platform died.

@Sjd6795 if your talking about a tether strap for a car seat then i have installed on in my 97 gsx as well. I have been meaning to do a write up about it. But i got the tether from the mitsubishi dealership and put it right in the middle of the seat through a factory hole. I can get better pics later.

Did that just now and the car seat seems solid, don't think my son will be flying anywhere.
CEL doesn't stay on long enough to read anything and no codes are saved. It has a black box ECU so unsure if that could be deleting them.

I did notice the intake had an open nipple after the MAF sensor I'm assuming it was to the valve cover I just installed a catch can and got that all fixed up. I don't know how big of a intake leak that 3/8 nipple would cause being after the MAF or if it's related to the CEL at all but fixed the exposed nipple anyways.
