Hey guys so a little background on the car, I just recently picked up this car all stock and just installed ECMlink today, it never occurred to me to check the CEL because it was never on in the first place. So it does not turn on whatsoever and I have check all the bulbs on the back of the cluster and also check the CEL pin on the ecu to see if was possibly cut, any other advise? I want to make sure it’s functioning in case of knock or high coolant temps

update.. I read another forum and was told to check pin 36 at the ECU for 12v with the key on and theres no power, I just received this ECU in the mail today from ECMtuning, is there maybe something wrong with the ECU that i sent them??

The CEL should go on for 5 seconds when the ignition switch is turned on. Power comes from the ignition switch, to the 10 amp "Gauge" fuse (driver's leg panel fuses), to the CEL, to pin 36 (where the ECU grounds it for 5 seconds to turn it on). You can safely ground pin 36 to see if the light and fuse work when ignition switch is turned on. If not on, either the fuse or the CEL is blown.

The CEL does not come on whatsoever and I verified I’m getting power at the fuse for the cluster, I also tried grounding the pin 36 like you said with no light either

Do you by chance have a multimeter to check continuity from the fuse panel to the actual cluster or to test the bulb itself..I'm sure by now you have swapped out bulbs to verify tho. Is this the only light not functioning can you see other signs when you turn key on?

I do have a multimeter and will check continuity between the fuse panel And cluster plugs. It’s so odd cause the car runs fine

So I’ve checked continuity between pin 36 on the ecu and where the cel pin is on the cluster and that’s good

I also went ahead and checked fuse #8 in the interior fuse panel and it has power being sent to the cluster aswell as continuity

im just lost as to why my CEL isn’t working, pin 36 does not produce 12v as I’ve read on some places so I’m not sure where to look

Brandon: So your sure it wasn't just the bulb?
Yes I made sure it was NOT the bulb, I even took the cel bulb and put it in the good cluster and it worked, I’m not sure as to why this cluster might not be working though cause all the contacts and connections look good

So do you have a replacement? I have a good cluster out of a 97..I'm also curious to why your cluster isnt working
Yes I did I have a red 96 gs-t that had a cluster with 60k on it, I popped it in and the cel worked again, I even tested that bulb on the bad cluster and no dice :idontknow: my car just says 63k now instead of 200k hahaha
