Been a long time since I have been on here, but I recently just sold my 2004 WRX STI. I am looking to get any manual AWD DSM that's in decent shape.

I have been chatting with a guy that's about 6 hours away. He has what seems to be an overall good condition 95 talon TSI. It has just under 190k miles, clean title, new tires, built transmission(700hp), new clutch, new front brakes, rotors, calipers, tein suspension, all with 2k miles only.

It also has aluminium radiator, tri piller gauge pod with boost, wideband, oil pressure, Ecm link v3, Thermal R&D 3" turbo back exhaust. This is about it for mods seems he got all the essential stuff and hasn't really touched the engine bay.

I have talked with him a bit he says he has all receipts for the work/parts done to it. The transmission has a center diff locker (claims it lunges in parking lots due to that) I am not sure what he means by this exactly so if someone could explain. He spent $2600 on the transmission alone and is also offering the stock transmission to go with the car.

The car has Ecm link v3, what are some things I should expect to get? Any cables, CD disc, etc?

Also what are some other important questions I should be asking about the car. I used to own a 1990 GST so I know a little about DSMs. But I have owned several turbo charged cars, 4cyl, 6cyl, NA v8's so I have knowledge of vehicles overall. But I have been out of DSM for some time so help a brother out please!

Welcome back!

For link, you'll simply need to download the program from their site and the cable should be with the car. The cable attaches from OBD2 port and will have usb on the other end for your computer.

When I purchased my car, the seller told me it had v3 and it ended up have v2 :f-u:. After you connect, it will tell you which version you have on the lower right hand corner.

This is what the cable looks like.

The car could have a vce installed which will lock the front and rear diffs together, eliminating the normal split from the viscous coupling, this can cause the wheels to chatter on low speed sharp turns such as parking lots, the car could also have front diff damage or a cooked viscous coupler.
