I have a question for you guys. I’m looking at a head a guy has. So he says it’s a 2 gen head with 272 cams. Also comes with new valves and lifters. He said he had it on a 1st gen. Has it been modified to fit a 6 bolt. And can it go back on a 7 bolt. Are the valves clearances different? I guess the cams would be worth what he’s asking. I was just trying to avoid more machine shop work.

For a 7 bolt head to fit on a 6 bolt, the head stud holes need to be machined out. I believe to 12mm. The 6 bolt head bolts are bigger than the 7 bolts.
So the head you are looking at has been drilled out to have larger holes for the 6 bolt studs. I wouldnt run it if you dont have a 6 bolt block but that's just me.
