I own an automatic 95 eagle talon tsi with transmission problems, and I recently acquired a 96 gst with really low miles. My question is, would it be more worth it to swap the awd system from the tsi into the gst or swap the manual tranny from the gst into the talon? The talon has 130k miles and the gst has 84k, but the talon is in far better condition as far as interior and body goes

I would say this all depends on your goals. I LOVE driving stick personally. BUT, I love AWD way more. Also, now that it's getting so hard to source manual transmissions because they break so much and people go through them, a lot of people are sticking to auto anyway because you break less parts and autos make faster drag cars (at least this is what the consensus is based off what I've read). So it all depends on your goals and likes/dislikes.

I would just buy a new transmission for the TSi AWD. An AWD swap is a big job, a manual transmission is smaller, but it's pretty pointless to kill the AWD if you have it.

The auto tranny seems to be damn near impossible to find, either the tranny itself or parts for it. I love manual but I dont mind the auto at all. I was just considering how to get an awd running since Its hard to find parts for the auto

Thanks, I wasnt sure how big of a job the awd swap was. I've been looking for auto trannys and they're hard to come across. I'd be willing to just rebuild mine but finding parts for it is difficult

You need to be more clear. If you swap awd to the gst remember those are auto parts not 5spd parts so you will still need a viable auto awd trans.

This is by far my biggest pet peeve with the platform.
No viable options. You're basically stuck when the auto takes a sh**. It’s a crock.

If there was a way to adapt the Hyundai V6 F4A33 trans to our cars we’d be in business. But no, we’re f***ed. Lol.
Maybe I should look into this?

When you say "transmission problems" what exactly do you mean?

it could be as simple as a bad tcu or a few loose wire connectors or low transmission fluid from leaking axle seals etc, a lot of people are scared of auto transmissions that they would overlook basic tests in favor of swapping in a manual transmission so I think more details on the ops part to explain what is going on with the transmission might help us give you a strategy on how to fix or test it.
