Good morning yall. 2g Talon tsi, 7bolt. As my header says... I think I screwed up. just rebuilt the engine. all went well except the Vehicle Cranks and wont start. It has Fuel, Spark and Air. I found the crank sensor pigtail was missing, spliced on a new one. It cranks better now, much more consistent. Still wont start. CAR HAS ADJUSTABLE CAM GEARS, first time working with adjustable gears. Exhaust is coming out the air inlet side of the turbo. This leads me to believe my timing is off on the cams, am I right? I want to make sure im thinking correctly before removing all my pullies and the timing cover again to reset timing again, in car this time.

Thanks guys. Jake.

This is the position of my cas.. @delta448 what's the difference in your two pictures? Im not seeing a difference..

And that was taken off with cylinder #1 at TDC and all timing marks lined up? Cause it looks almost 90 degrees off...

The difference is in the rotor position. There's an indentation on the edge of the tab facing us in the picture of the correct position. In the 180 degree out of position picture, its pointing at the wrong side.

@delta448 i realized that after i responded. So, i checked the CAS, it was correct. Switched it 180° because why not at this point? Still cranked and fired the same. Then i removed the belts, took the crank pulley off. Verified i had the crank pulley in the right spot, painted some lines on the crank pulley notches, put a timing gun on it thinking maybe i timed it on the intake stroke instead of combustion stroke, timing gun verified it IS timed correctly. It still back fires into the intake. Bad CAS? Injectors spraying in a bad pattern? It seems to be over fueled, spark plugs are saturated in fuel, on the edge of the head there is wet fuel on Cylinders 1, 2 & 4 where it would be going into the exhaust manifold. Ideas? Will post a video or two when i can.

@delta448 if you look at the other video i posted on the previous page of this post, that's me up close recording the valves as it tries to start and that shows the excess fuel that im referring to now.

For those that were following or put in input. I got the Talon running last night, idles and runs smooooooth.. The car has adjustable FP cam gears for EVO & DSM. The Evo timing marks are the labeled marks. Dsm marks are barely noticeable.. I had the car timed for an evo and the firing order for an evo.. after I redid the timing and changed it to DSM timing and firing order. She fires right up and runs like a top. Thank you for all the ideas and assistance on my pursuit to no start!

The DSM gods were with you!!!

Post #18:
Some adjustable cam gears have timing marks on both sides of the sprocket, I've even seen 1 brand that had them marked for all the versions of 4g63 on the same gear. The dowel pins for the cams should be pointed straight up

I'm glad you figured it out. And I hope that the post I took the time to write actually helped you. But I'm fairly certain that you just skimmed right over it.

@delta448 you are 100% right. I didn't see your comment until you replied to it just now. That could have made my life way easier. I apologize for that. Cant believe I missed it.
