Hey guys,

So I just bought a 1997 eclipse gst a few days ago as my first project car. I have to rebuild the engine/install the clutch and trans which is fine, but I'm hella confused about the wiring. The old owner cut the harness for some odd reason and now I'm confused on what I have to pull to replace. Now I heard there are 3 harnesses that run in and around the engine bay? The main one that goes to all the trans and engine stuff and the other two that run along the fender lines to access the lights/radiator fans ect. I'm gonna pull the engine harness soon so I can get a better look. I guess my question is what harness do I need exactly? The ones that go around the side are missing and there is about 8 wires that are cut behind the driver side fender.

Thanks,
John

I believe there is just 2 harnesses (concerning the motor). i had to replace the body harness on my old 2g. It goes from in the car, thru the dash and firewall, thru the (driver?) fender and I cant remember where it connects to the engine harness.

Sounds like you will need the body harness. I found mine used and shipped for about $100 on here. Thats the one that does the radiator/lights etc. Ill try to find a pic of when i did mine

This is what I had to do to replace mine. its the "chassis/fuse box harness"

Thanks that makes sense. I have a few guys parting out cars around me that I should be able to find a harness. How hard and confusing is it to do?

If you have time and space its really not too bad. My only advice is dont mess with too many things at a time with wiring LOL.

I replaced a harness, fixed boost oil and coolant leaks, and modded things like fuel system, tune and intercooler all at once on that car. It made it very difficult to figure out what was actually going on, or if I even fixed certain problems.

I believe 95-96 and 97-99 could have different harnesses so verify that.

Also!!! Mark with tape and sharpie (or similar) all of your connections and what is unused or a ground etc.

I had a hell of a time trying to figure out what was wrong. Had to scour thru the harness and found a few unused connectors. Eventually to realize I didnt' plug the main one into the fuse box -.-
