Hi guys,

i want to discuss how many torque and hp the stock differential and gear box can safely handle.

and then to see if there are value for money options that we can use from other cars that can handle more power than the stock. For example from evo, colt etc....

For the end i kept the clutch kit subject. I can see a lot are searching for xtd clutch because is cheap many agree and so others disagree. After years of these clutches in the market whats the feedback you have seen/heard??

are they really value for money and can handle power for a fair km?

Greetings Turbakias,

First off, are you talking about our Euro GS Eclipses, or the US Turbo models? The transmissions have somewhat weaker internals on the GS ones. There's a few folks who have turbo'd their GS's and can tell you how their F5M31 FWD transmissions and clutches hold up. Personally I am using a Competition Stage 2 clutch kit and it seems to be holding my power well, but the clutch pedal is extremely stiff.

Let me introduce me as turbakias is my nick. My
Name is dimitris.

so i owe an eclipse but in the door frame there is a sticker that says eagle talon so i assume its a us import?!?!

i send you a photo to see if you can understand which model i owe.

the engine is 4g63 turbo.
The clutch kit you have what brand is it?

Yep, that's a 1st generation imported Eagle Talon! It looks very nice and clean. But in general, all Turbo Eclipses and Talons are imports, since only naturally aspirated DSMs were sold officially in Europe.

My clutch is called "Competition Clutches". It was the only one I could find at the time, but I wont use another Competition clutch when I have to change it. You should know that the flywheels on the 1st generation and 2nd generation DSMs are different! So if you end up looking for a new clutch, make sure to specify that it's for a 6 bolt engine. I am 99% sure yours is a 6 bolt 4G63 because your Talon looks to be pre-facelift. But you should make sure which engine you have just in case.

I have already checked it and its 6bolt engine which as i have read is better than the 7bolt.
How many ho can you clutch handle? Do you have their website available so i can check with them? It will be better if i find a clutch kit from EU so i can avoid custom fees.

It's rated for 4-500 HP but also depending more on how much torque it can handle. I actually got it from a friend who had ordered it from the US. But I just checked on their site, they have a UK store which you can check out. Type "Eclipse" in their search box and browse the kits.

All clutch kits work on the 4G63 from '90-'99, just the flywheel is different. But you may be able to find other brands somewhere for sale in the EU. I am sure there are high performance automotive shops in Greece, maybe call them first?

I have an XTD stage 4 sprung clutch in my 1g, with a fidanza aluminum/steel flywheel. I have yet to start the car yet :p SO i can't give any real feedback. But I did a lot of research to end up at that point.

I had a 2g a few years ago and it would slip the stock clutch at 20+psi on a 20g turbo.

I put an XTD Stage 2 clutch and lightweight flywheel in my stock 95 subaru legacy and it worked fine LOL. Although it grabbed way too hard for a turd of a car with blown bushings.

Never use the hardware or bearings from those kits.

You should be able to handle 400hp easily without concern of any drivetrain issues, besides the clutch. That seems to be the mark people put on a 6 bolt motor in stock form (400hp), and I've never seen 1 person bring up the tranny or axles needing to be built before that.

So you used the flywheel that came in the kit? And it was ok? I've read that you should only use the pressure plate and clutch disc, and that the rest is crap. But by all means I'm going to use that flywheel if I can LOL.

The car was basically free because it need a clutch, so I didnt care too much :p
Honestly, on a car you care about I wouldn't skimp on the flywheel. It's not too much more for a fidanza, competition etc. And Its bolted to your crank! I hear a lot of good things about the XTD clutches though.

My combo is
Fidanza flywheel (Aluminum with replaceable steel friction plate)
ARP supra longer bolts, with 6 bolt Flexplate spacer (for even clamping pn Aluminum)
XTD stg 4 Clutch Sprung 6 puck, XTD pressure plate
OEM Throw out bearing
Competition clutch forged clutch fork and ball

I do remember that with the lightweight flywheel in my subi (XTD) that it revved up a lot smoother and faster, but the car was harder to keep running in stop and go trafffic. THe momentum of a heavier flywheel keeps the motor going easier. And there was no ***** footing or granny shifting LOL. That would cause the car to shudder. (i.e taking off slowly from a stop at low revs)
