Hey guys! Newbie here to the DSM scene. Just picked up a 1999 GST for 2k with 122k miles automatic. Car runs decent, but trying to get everything replaced so that it can run better. Not modding at this point, just getting everything back to stock for now and running smooth. Everything is stock with the exception of the dodgy BOV (which was replaced with stock unit). Already started to break into it and already replaced a bunch of parts and the more I keep digging, the more things I am finding to replace...
- Aftermarket BOV changed back to stock
- Driver side door handle.
- Front Upper A-Arm suspension
- Front o2 sensor
- Rear lower control arms
- All suspension bushings
- Oil change
- Radiator Flush
- Fuel Filter
- brakes
- rotors
- Oil Cooler leaky O-Ring
- Oil and Filter
- Air Filter
- New exhaust manifold studs ( on broke off in the head)
- New exhaust manifold gasket
- New turbo Oil return line gasket
- Rear lift struts
- engine degreasing..LOTS OF IT..OIL IS EVERYWHERE.
- adjust belts that were to tight causing super loud sqeal

That’s a clean looking car.
Are those stock painted calipers or did you save a few hundred dollars buying it with aftermarkets.

Thanks! Looks like the previous owner painted them himself. Still more to do. Picking up a set of EVO X GSR wheels later today :)

Sick car with low miles!

Id look for the metal door handles for 2gs if you can! its a very common issue/design flaw. I had to leave my window down, or crawl thru the hatch on my old 2g talon :p

I believe a member on here made the metal door handles! Not sure if theyre still around.

They'res some great vendors as well for all the parts you'll need. Heres a few I like:
jnztuning.com
extremepsi.com
stmtuned.com
maperformance.com

Good on you for doing maintenance first! Id just advise if you plan on doing future modding, read the upgrade paths. Sometimes it's nice to kill 2 birds with 1 stone and not have to touch it twice! For example, upgrade to a wideband O2 when replacing your sensor. If replacing the stock 2g bov, look for upgrades such as the 1g bov or maybe a stock evo one? not sure.

Just something to think about! I know its also nice to start from a proper stock platform. And messing with too many things at once can make it difficult to pinpoint issues.

I used to read build journals to see what other people do just for ideas and inspiration.

vfaq.com is great with picture guides, upgrade paths, how to, etc

Be sure to support members of the community as well! Theres a lot of fabricators and freelancers out there with cool products and services you can't find anywhere else. Example tubular suspension, evo brake adapters, exhaust manifolds, tuning etc etc.

awesome!! Thanks so much for the information, everyone on here is super great and I will be contributing as much as possible to possible help other out. I also have an r32 GTR that I just finished up, so familiar with working on rusty, crusty, and oily bits :)

Changing the door handle looked/sounded so much easier than actually doing it!

Glad to hear you are trying to do all the maintenance before trying to mod the car. Most people try to mod the car first and then worry about making sure the car is running properly.
