Only messed with a few settings with the 100.1 Shift box / TCU.
Before I send an email I figured I’d post a thread up maybe see if I can get some guidance here instead.
I have a ‘95 TSI FWD, EVO 16G setup, trans cooler with fan, stock trans, 100.1 shift box and either the GEAR or PRND smart module from ForcedFour.
When activated and in sport mode my trans temps just keep climbing. After thorough warm up I can drive at ~165-175*F. Fan on for cooler, Flip the switch for shift box and sport mode... just CRUISING it’ll push temps somewhere north of 200-210*F before I just shut it off. Again, with the f***ing fan on.

I think there was a setting for lockup, pretty sure I had that on. Would that cause this?
I didn’t mess with any of the maps yet (although I need to cause they are NOT what I want at all. Lol.) I’ve calibrated TPS, and just kinda put in what I thought was basic stuff. Hardly changed much at all.
Curious if anyone else is having or HAD issues like this?
Wouldn’t mind some settings recommendations for the maps.

Here ya go. Let me know if you need anything else. I let my car do all the work and rarely ever shift manually. Economy Map will shift it into OD at cruising speeds in town. Sport Map holds all the gears longer due to my laggy HX40, so I cruise around in Sport then flip the switch to Economy and she shifts on into OD for saving gas. :thumb:
My son and I worked on these maps for a week or so, tweaking where needed. I still need to have her hold 2nd gear just a bit longer before shifting but its only about 500rpm to low or so.
Your 2g has lockup so make sure you use it as Matt said.

Wow. Thank you. Will plug this in and maybe make some changes if I feel the need (if I need to cater more to my driving IF I even have to).
Thank you so much.

will also report back on progress regarding temps.

Report back on the maps. I'll help if I can and it will all be in this one thread you started. Easy to reference :thumb:
I have quite abit of 1st hands on experience playing with it. I have a video of it shifting itself under a hard load and it works really really good if setup to your driving. Mine is obviously different than 90% of others depending on which car I am in.
PM sent.

I haven’t plugged your maps in, but rather used some of your numbers as a starting point.
I don’t want my setup to rev as high as yours as I’m still evo16g and 450cc injectors w/ a bone stock engine. I’m trying keeping revs under ~7200.

I played with the TCU for hours last night and there’s DEFINITELY been progress. For one, I found the stock shift maps for ‘95 FWD & AWD in the FSM. Started with that and worked my way from there fixing things I didn’t like and keeping the things I liked using your numbers and my own.
There are DEFINITELY ~2 bugs I’ve found with the Forced Four unit. Probably going to mail in about em.

Trans temps are definitely in check. I try to camp around the 175-180 mark, but many many shifts at varying loads it doesn’t seem to hold. I can keep them below 210 though w/ the majority of repeated shifting hovering around 195-200. So I’m happy with that. I’m still hooked up to radiator and my cooler is not THAT big. If I was putting down a lot more power I’d go to the next size cooler and I bet she’d hold wherever I wanted.
I don’t know what in tf the issue was before with temperatures but I’m so glad that issue is gone. Lol.

i would suggest bypassing the radiator and upgrading the cooler. my 1g trans never sees above 175 cruising 11x8 b&m cooler/fan) its all stand alone.

I run twin Hayden 1403's without a fan but no temp gauge. It is in the stock side mount location and ducted.

Side note, I ordered an extra POWER cable from ForcedFour and then I can unplug the box from the car and take it inside and plug it in and work inside. I use a 12v power supply for power and just plug in the usb plug and can be comfortable while I am browsing or making changes. :thumb:

We may have the same cooler man. Part #70298.
I don’t want to bypass in favor of faster warmup for trans with below freezing temperatures.

ha. Lol. Marty, that’s badass.

not the same cooler i run. i have the 70266. fair enough on that but also take into account your temps are always going to be higher because of the radiator temp.

On second though, maybe I’ll tie the lines together (bypassing rad heater/cooler), see how it goes.

No doubt man. That thought has always been in the back of my head.

I’m gonna have to grab a different cooler or something. This one is not up to task AT ALL for my setup.
Just swapped in the IPT valve body and lightly playing with the car = 180+.
Highway over 80mph is ~210
Over 90 is 210+

Absolutely unreal to spend $300 on a cooler and it isn’t doin’ s***. Lol.

Plan is to buy fittings for the trans in order to have a whole system with a minimum size of 3/8” / 6AN. Preferably 8AN.
Also moving to a Derale unit. Part #15870 or the #65861 for big thing / small package.

I am seeing the same temps. I also have an IPT Valve body. Wait till summer, its worse. I have -6an lines and a big cooler too.

Are you on a stock converter?

My thoughts exactly (*what am I gonna do in the summer?*).
Yes, stock converter. I can feel lockup is engaging / operational and have utilized it SOME in FF100.1

I have it located (crammed) on drivers side where ABS module used to be. I still need to cut vent holes / slots on the back side shield (the one behind cooler towards tire) so air has a better place to go.
But anyone who’s seen pictures of my car the front bumper is barely on right now anyway. Lol. So it should be getting okay(ish) enough airflow in my opinion.
I’m just think I cannot exchange enough heat fast enough. Frustrating and interesting at the same time.

Current thought process is bigger cooler and either AF spare tire delete panel and mount a cooler in rear, or squeeze one in the space between the bumper and A/C condenser.
Should provide me with space for bigger cooler and proper avenues for air entering and then having another place to go after exiting.
