Help save motor sports and hobbyist racing! If you haven't done so already be sure to fill out this form here:
http://www.sema.org/rpm

Doing so will send a pre-formatted letter to your state representatives.

And if you're a business owner, here are some more things you can do:
https://www.sema.org/sema-enews/202...to-pass-the-rpm-act-and-protect-the-future-of

We need to be vigilant, as hobbyist racing doesn't have a huge lobbying arm, compared to pharmaceuticals and other massive industries. We're a relatively small group that most of our representatives don't hear from much.

Hmm for California mine went to Dianne Finestein and Kamala Harris. Now there's a couple we can count on to support racing
Yeah, I'm a little concerned about that too... but, we did just get that crazy exhaust law reversed recently with people doing something like this. So I suppose not all hope is lost.

Done.

May not be in the communist state of California, but the representatives we have in this part of PA aren't much better. Waste of space Bob Casey, who hasn't done anything meaningful in the many years he's been in office.. and Susan Wild.. who's currently running ads saying I should thank her for reducing costs on healthcare. Odd, my insurance went up this year? Typical government trying to ruin things for those of us trying to enjoy our free time :idontknow:

I also got a response from my senator. Copied below:

Dear Mr. Kellogg:

Thank you sharing your thoughts with me about the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act (RPM Act).

The Clean Air Act sets federal standards for curbing harmful air pollution around the country. Section 203(a) of the Clean Air Act prohibits modifying devices installed in motor vehicles in compliance with the Clean Air Act.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a draft rule in July 2015 about greenhouse gas emissions and fuel efficiency standards for Medium- and Heavy-Duty trucks. Some provisions in the draft rule concerned members of the competitive motorsports industry. The EPA argued that the rule makes a clear distinction between non-road vehicles- such as all-terrain vehicles, dirt bikes, and snowmobiles- and motor vehicles. The EPA argued the rule's language clarifies current laws by stating that non-road vehicles can be modified and have their certified configuration altered for competitive uses. After reviewing public comments on the proposed rule, the EPA announced this provision will be removed from the proposed final rule.

The RPM Act would amend Section 203(a) of the Clean Air Act to establish that its anti-tampering provisions do not apply to vehicles made or modified for exclusive use in competitive racing.

Should the RPM Act or related legislation come before the Senate, I will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind. Thank you again for contacting me.

Sincerely,

Sherrod Brown

United States Senator

Dear Mr. Alleman:

Thanks for writing about the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports (RPM) Act. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue, and I am a proud cosponsor of this legislation.

As you know, during the Obama Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency issued rules that restricted the ability of amateur motorists to convert cars into fine-tuned racers. This legislation would exempt vehicles solely for competition from EPA regulations on emissions. It would protect amateur race car mechanics, drivers, and part time hobbyists from overreaching regulations imposed by the EPA.

Motorsports have been essential to the fabric of American culture and entertainment. This attempt by the EPA to restrict amateur motorists from providing entertainment and practicing a hobby is just more unnecessary government overreach. Rest assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind as the Senate furthers this legislation.

Again, thank you for contacting me about this important issue. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me about other issues that are important to you and your family. It is an honor to serve Louisiana in the United States Senate.

Sincerely,

Nice job! Great thinking. The drag strip in Sacramento is rumored to be closing soon so not sure if they'll do it, but I could always reach out to Sonoma Raceway (Sears Point) and all the road courses in the area.

I see this post began over a year ago.. Is it still an on going matter or has this been resolved. If not.. is there any thing I could do here in Canada to help . Maybe we should outlaw seat padding in office chairs.. No modification for comfort and see how they like it..
