okay so goodbye all credibility... I had the caliper zeroed at like 5.6mm. I double checked and its roughly 59.7mm, but its very difficult to measure a 7+7.

Sorry about that!

Anyone find a good way to measure these with any precision? I am saying 59.7-ish mm until I figure out something better...

Measured the compressor housing opening - best I could without a telescoping gauge. I had a 3d printed Bender head that was 60.19mm and it fit with minimal clearance.

Again, sorry for that. that's what happens when I don't double check myself LOL

You need something like an Optical Comparator. Then you could set on the table and measure across all the veins.

Yes, we have them at work, but I doubt anyone has a spec that precise to compare against... Maybe I will bring in some parts when I disassemble, just so there is a record of what size it is. We also have a Zeiss CMM that would probably be my first choice. Optical comparators are slightly more subjective than a CMM.

Now you just need to find out what kind of tolerance Holset holds themselves to. A CMM would require some programming and time. At least checking it on a comparator would be pretty quick.

Optical comparator would be better than a caliper, but still not too accurate. We actually aren't even allowed to use our calibrated optical comparators for dimensional auditing of production parts.

8 blade is easy, Marty. But when you have 7 there aren't blades opposite of eachother...
Very true. I had it laying up there with the 6 blade. Can you surround the fins in tape and measure? Just trying to think out of the box.

Quit using these big words, you're scaring me.....:p
PM sent

Measure center bore/hub and divide by 2, measure a single blade to the end of the center bore/hub then add the two measurements...

You should be looking for discrepancies larger than 1-2mm's and not worrying about 0.1mm measurements.

Yes. The knockoffs will have completely different wheels/specs often ranging from 50-56mm for an hx40(go look on ebay). If you're so worried just take it all apart and take pictures because all this back and forth between the seller/holset is going go get you nowhere. From what I've seen so far it looks good.

I have certainly seen generics advertised with 60/76. You are saying nobody makes them within a few tenths of a mm of Holset's wheels? I struggle with that. The fact that you can find generic TW/CW with proper specs for a holset housing tells me you are wrong.

I agree that the back and forth got me nowhere. Just excuse after excuse why he couldn't prove its real. Holset now has Yolanda looking at my case because apparently Clinique didn't know what the f*** she was talking about. Yolanda had me forward her a pic of the tag... same as Clinique did... so I expect another dead end.

Can someone share pictures of "REAL" Holset internals? I would disassemble and compare them, but for now, I have nothing to reference when I get mine apart.

@2g2slow97 idk about jackpot... I hope it lasts for a while. At least I know I can rebuild it with real holset parts... time will tell

Also I thought I should share that the seller is actually the owner of several online turbo "stores" - and they do also sell crappy HX40s that arent branded holset at all. The stores they own:
debo turbo - aliexpress
turboprince520 - ebay
xhcturbo - ebay
turboking - ebay

Just for reference*

This was an exhausting thread. "Im leaning towards fake"--"It's real!"---"I have my doubts"----"Hooray, i scored!!!"

Who really cares at $450 to be honest

Bolt the bi*** on and run it already.... Jesus H Christ
