my car is a 1995 eagle talon esi.

lately ive been having flooding problems for the car to where it would cut off mid drive and flood on the spot. but today after leaving my gfs house I got in and started right up but the car shut off after a minute of idling. it didn't make any funny engine noises that I was aware of it would just turn off as if I turned the key to off, and then the car would fire right up, run for a few seconds and die almost instantly.

I started it up and ran it 9 more times and it shut off 9 more times before I gave up and came to write this... its 19 degrees out, 10pm at night and the car is at my gfs who doesn't have any form of diagnostic tools so I can't really check "the obvious stuff til tomorrow"

living in northwest indiana you will experience 4 seasons in a week. its gonna be 50 degrees out tomorrow and ill see what happens

also when car was running I could rev the piss out of it to 7k rpm but it would cut off a few seconds after letting go of the throttle

just tried to start again and same issues but I tried to listen for any funny noises.. only thing I would notice is some kind mechanical whirring coming from the drivers side. its makes a similiar sound when you turn key to accessories on 1 turn before start

ok so tried starting again, and tried to pay attention to any little detail. from what I realized it starts instantly and revs all the way to 7k rpm easily but will cut off approximately after 10 seconds of running. is there anything I can check to give you guys an idea of what could be the problem

Is your egr connected or blocked off?

Have you checked your intake manifold for carbon build up? I have the same issue just not as bad, I believe it to be my map and a dirty throttle body/intake manifold. It could be any of the sensors in your intake of the IAC. You should start checking it out and trying to diagnose.

Are you getting any trouble codes (CEL)?

Your last comment sounds like a huge vacuum leak, you should be able to hear it with the hood open and someone standing next to the engine bay listening/looking for the leak.

Second, that noise is your fuel being sent to the injectors so you're definitely getting fuel. If you dont have a vacuum leak I suspect your map is reading really improperly. Is there any way you can post a picture of your engine bay? Your symptoms sound severe enough it shouldn't be too hard to find the issue.

Sorry I'm kind of all over the place with this, how are you starting your car. Are you doing a flood mode start where you hold the gas pedal to the floor when you start? Your throttle body could be clogged and getting stuck.

Also check your air filter, a clogged air filter will mess with the AFR

Will post a pic of engine bay around 3pm when I get to gfs for some mild diagnosis. keep in mind that the talon was engine swapped but it was done by some friends and family so its not at all professional. with that being said when I post a pic of car you will see a bunch of connectors not connected which I would wanna know what they are. guess thats what happens when you buy a $500 dsm. ill be posting pics of overall the car itself to show you what a $500 dsm looks like. to most its gonna look like a beater or piece of junk but to me a 19 year olds first legal car its the dopest car on the planet

No check engine light flashing. for the first 2 months I was driving the car. I was starting it at 25% throttle and go WOT when I heard the engine catch but this caused my flood if I tried it after my car would shut off when driving. since about 2 weeks ago ive been doing flood mode starts and no flooding yet.

what I suspected was causing my flooding I replaced the Engine coolant temp sensor but when I popped open hood to do it I realised it was never connected and the connector that plugs in is torn off. so kinda confused

I was definetley going to replace IAC and my TPS sensor because the symptoms of these failing match up to issues ive been having with idling and this cut off situation

whenever I start my car cold here in indiana it would idle at say 1000rpm and after 5-10 minutes it would hold steady at 1500

but if I ever drove off without letting the revs hit and sit 1500 the car would die no matter what whenever I would approach a stop. so thats when I realized it only would shut off if I took off in it without warming it up for 10 mins but every blue moon it would still shut off but extremely rarely if its at operating temp

im gonna post videos to youtube and post the links here

This is all very interesting information. After reading your newest post it could be literally anything. I'm no pro by any means but I have been doing a lot of troubleshooting with my 420a eclipse and I have learned a lot so far, not everything but still a fair amount. Sucks you're halfway cross the country from me I would be more than glad to help. I'll be keeping an eye out for your updates. Coolant temp sensor not being connected or failing will cause your car to stall btw

No expert either. Ive been riding/working on strictly motorcycles. my best mechanical achievement is frame swapping an FZR600 with no title just so I can plate it legally.

so when it comes to engines Id say I know a ton more then your everyday of the line 19 year old but by no means am I an expert. before 2 months ago I had never even heard of Diamond Star Motors, an Eagle talon nor did I know that the 2g ecipses came with AWD with an Evo motor.

me buying this car started when I got in my cousins silverado and I found a bad ass momo steering wheel and got to asking him questions about it. thats when he told me about the eagle talon and diamond star motors. I love this car alot and walking around school with my steering wheel is the coolest feeling ever to me

PROBLEM SOLVED - culprit is TPS

got to my gfs and started my car to see if the problems is still present and sure enough fired up revved it all the way to the 7's as soon as I let off throttle immediately cut out. so its 50 degrees out (in indiana thats the equivalent to 80 degrees considering how jacked up our weather is)

I went and popped my hood and went straight to the TPS, MAF sensor and all of my evap emissions stuff. I first plugged out TPS sensor then started the talon, manged to start but ran like garbage under WOT not even accelerating past 4k then cut off. I plugged the TPS back in voila problem magically solved I started and my revs spiked to 1300-1500 which is good for my car and when it idled longer then 10 seconds I was surprised.

I let it idle for 20 minutes before shutting her off (forgot my steering wheel when I left to my gfs, so couldn't drive it)
