Hello guys!

I have been looking at these two filter systems (see attached photo) for my Eclipse GST and wondering if it's worth the extra money for the polished "pipe" vs the one with an adapter wich only replaces the OEM airbox? Are there any restrictions in the OEM rubber pipe that I'm not aware of? If not, I'm planing to develop and 3D-print a adapter like in the picture. Both of the filter systems shown the pictures are Injen.

Thanks!

The piping is mostly for looks. It is supposed to be for better performance, but when it comes down to it, the stock hose creates such a slight resistance that it isn't worth the money for the new piping. Unless you really really need that extra 0.25 horsepower.

I used an adapter on the end of my stock piping for a cold air intake. And I did this after buying new piping, because the new piping did not fit. Save your money and your time.

I have that injen intake pipe on my dsm. I didn't notice any performance improvements, BUT I could hear the turbo spool significantly better!

As the item is called a Cold Air Intake remember that where the filter is placed may drag hot air from your engine bay and this would defeat it`s function .As you can see in these pics I had that problem and what I did to correct it. My filter was open to the engine bay drawing hot air so I relocated it to inside the fender well . Problem solved. I am adding a link to parts you may need to do the job

@MattHDSM Yes, that's probably due to the filter itself and not the piping. :) You get a "pshh" and spool sound with almost all open airfilters :)

@Widgmaster good job there. Looks nice!

Is there any interest in 3D-printed or CNC machined adapters for this application? I could design different adapters for different size filters.

There are a couple places to buy the adapters online. There is a market for them, but you would have to beat other's prices.
