Anyone use an HKS/OnGreenPerformance divided T4 with any success?

I just bought the OnGreen manifold on a whim, looking for any experiences with them. I'm aware I can put an EFR7064 on it and be done with it (I am looking for spool/powerband vs. peak numbers), but I'm frugal in this regard. Dynos welcome!
 
You'r going to have to check out the wayback for that. Those were popular in 2003ish. I bet 90% of the current members here don't even know what they are any more.

That manifold and a t/s t4 EFR with an internal gate will be a super robust combo that will work pretty damn good.
 
I figured, I can only find a few old pictures without much feedback. Mostly single scroll turbos used on it, strangely.

The wastegate provision that it has isn't divorced to the flange; I'm not sure if it would lose the twin-scroll effect based on that alone. If so, an internally gated EFR would probably be the ticket; a 16cm divided T4 HX35 would be nice if the wastegate off the manifold works too. I'm super excited about this piece to say the least.
 
If the two scrolls aren't completely sealed off from the gate to the ports to the turbine wheel, you will get all of the drawbacks of a twin scroll with none of the gains.

you could easitly weld in some dividers to help things out.
 
IIRC, the OnGreen was basically a copy of the original HKS design with the only substantial difference being that it was a true twin scroll manifold. HKS only released 200 of them back in the day before the mold broke and Shep and Glazer's success with it made them in high demand at the time. When looking at the collector on the HKS manifold the divider inside did not extend all the way to the footprint--it was not a true twin scroll design. The OnGreen casting was an improvement on the original because it was cast with a twin scroll footprint to properly mate to a twin scroll turbine housing...this should be good for 1000 rpm-ish better spool over the HKS. They are rare and there is not too much info out there but its nice to have a cast manifold because they hold in heat better and are less prone to cracking than welded tubular. IMO the OnGreen T4 manifold is the best cast manifold out there for the 4g63 platform and should be great for the street/track. Good luck on your build.

Yeah that is a very bad ass manifold. I'm all about cast for the exhaust side of things.

Does anyone know how well these work with a t3 adapter? I'd like to buy one and use one but I don't think I need a t4 flanged hotside just yet.... would prefer to use something of the t3 variety.
 
It might work if each scroll could remain sealed (with no gap/seepage between the flanges), but it's added exhaust volume and I really wouldn't want to mess with one for fear of destroying it. Divided T4 housings are available for most popular turbos, and I saw something months ago that showed a T4 could make more power at low boost levels on some turbos with no spool loss vs a T3, so I would just stay T4.

Unfortunately the 7670 is too big for me; I would use a IWG 7163 if I went EFR; maybe an HX35 with 16cm housing if the external gate provision can be adapted to work perfectly. Space is also a concern, that wastegate is awfully close to the turbo flange.
 
Alright, it showed up today. This one was originally an HKS unit that was modified to be divided at the collector; no problem with that. The wastegate needs some work though, even if it's blocked off to go internal gate - it's not divided all the way, so according to the info posted above, ruins the twin scroll effect regardless. It will require a 2" piece with some tricky welding, but it looks possible.

That's a piece of DSM history there. How much did you pay for it?

IIRC i think the og HKS ones were a bit crack prone.

You could definatly run an t3 HX35 on a t3-t4 divided adaptor plate. I did it with a divided t4 manifold. I would probably weld the adaptor to the holset housing.

For some reason I remember the on green repops having a t3 and t4 bolt pattern on them.
 
I figure about $450 cdn total, and I'll fix any cracks that come up. I intend to wrap it, I'm sure that won't help the cracking situation either.

Lots of options, I will need to buy a Chinese wastegate and a Holset for mockup, I have my doubts on running them both.
 
I can't see a way to get a wastegate underneath that manifold. Space back there is really cramped. I ended up using a TS T4 flange used as a spacer in order to just get enough room for a tube back there. Turbine housing was a .63 or .68 precision T4 housing for a 35R. That combination is quite possibly the most impossible setup to work on. Once you get it together, it is packaged quite nicely though.
 
I ran one of the OnGreen Performance manifolds for a number of years. I piped the wastegate forward and to the drivers side of the bay. The turbo was a GT4202R and worked well.

I could probably find some old Link catalogs and pictures if I looked hard enough.

Mockup will be done on the weekend without the car, but I have a WH1C with 12cm housing, 1/2" T3/T4 adapter and a compact and low profile 38mm wastegate. The wastegate will probably bolt on but the dump routing will be very tricky and might cause some wastegate back pressure if it's possible.

If not, internal gate it is.

That's the only picture I have of mine. It's not much, but you can see where I ended up with it. I had to bend the dipstick tube a bit.
 
Yeah, this is turning into a disaster.

I picked everything up today and had many unpleasant surprises. For starters, the v-band exhaust kit didn't come with the opposite flange, clamp or bolts that were pictured.

Second, the Holset I got is some sort of oddball/non-Dodge WH1C with a 14cm housing and, correct me if I'm wrong, looks like junk by the markings on the compressor housing. I'm not too excited about running a 14cm housing, and even less excited about running a junk turbo that was advertised as "good".

Third, the wastegate doesn't have a prayer of fitting. I don't know what HKS was thinking (or OnGreen who rotated the wastegate flange slightly), but there isn't a wastegate in the world that would fit with any turbo in that spot. The only way to make it work is to divide it to the end, block it off and run it on internal gate. The internal gate actuator is monstrous and probably won't clear my radiator, and that's already a less-than-optimal setup. I'm pretty disappointed so far to say the least.

I'm going to shelf this project for a year or two, and come back with a T4-flanged EFR once I finish grad school.

Great piece of DSM history there.

The real fun begins once you make the convoluted piping to allow you to actually use said manifold...and then have to remove/reinstall it for any work.

Painful.

But, it's a cool piece to have for the nostalgia.

If you ever want the last, original HKS heat shield for it, I have it floating around the shop. It's never been used, but has been subjected to careless storage for the last decade and 1/2.
 
Yup, the convoluted piping came along with it. I'm trying to avoid using it and go with an internal wastegate in order to keep a fully divided exhaust. I don't think I can use the pipe and not lose spool..life would be much easier if I could, though.

I'd also love to use that heat shield but the OnGreen didn't have the mounting bosses for it, that's an HKS-only thing unfortunately. I erroneously stated earlier that this was an HKS unit that was modified - it's actually an OnGreen and their added divider at the turbo is a bit crude. The wastegate position and heat shield mounts are the obvious indicators.

I offloaded the WH1C and waiting for the right HX35 to come up. Everything else is ready to go (ignore the wastegate):

Many years ago I bought the only complete HKS kit I have seen to date. I spotted it on ebay and made a 750 BIN offer which he took. I then ceramic coated the whole assembly and flipped it for 1750. Nice to make money on stuff but I wish I still had it. The turbo was open scroll t4 "0" trim. compressor side was a 54 or 60 trim if I remember right. the wastegate was the bigger HKS gate. cool part was the cast downpipe/02. the gate was recirculated into it. really a cool setup. wish I at least had pics. dont even have that. sucks.

7670 with 0.92 IWG. Way more than I'll ever need, but the price was right.
